Please Mike Mcallum was a good body puncher but!! certainly not the best ,far from it,,,He pales in comparison to the great body punchers ,like Joe Frazier ,,Chavez Sr.,,even Pepino Cuevas was a more deadly body puncher then Mccallum ..Posted March 16, 2013

Mickey Ward’s Left hook to the body.. Taps the head left hook to the body!!!!!Posted March 15, 2013
These pale faces are always having these type of competitions, they once had a computer competition to satisfy their needs that the likes of Tunney would beat Ali. Take away latino whites and the Eastern block fighters and you would see that all these guys are good at is talking about boxing and calling other races names.Posted March 15, 2013
the top body puncher right now is little known Leo Santacruz, hes the best.Posted March 15, 2013
Rocky Marciano/Pacquiao should be and can bePosted March 15, 2013
I have to go with Rigo and Lamant Peterson on my top 5 body punchers right now, Canelo does not count since he fights guys from lower weight classes or aging fightersPosted March 14, 2013
Cotto is not on top like he use to be,but he should be recognizedPosted March 14, 2013

There have been some truly great body punchers in the history of boxing ..But i might have to agree with Jack Dempsey on this one ,,That Alexis Arguello was perhaps the best body puncher of all time ..he knew the art to perfection about body punching ..Throwing a hundred shots to the body does not make you a great body puncher ,,its where and when to deliver them body shots ..And Arguello was the master of it …Posted March 14, 2013

I love the list and agree with Arguello and must add Roberto Duran, Chavez Sr. and of course my favorite without a doubt, Irish Mickey Ward, he would snatch the life out of you with his brutal body work.

You put Mickey Ward in the same sentence as Joe Frazier? Frazier is an all-time great while Ward was a decent contender at best.Posted March 14, 2013
Emmanuel Dopedran Pedquiao
Cotto has a great left hook to the body. Marquez does a great job utilizing hooks to the body to set up straight rights. Chavez Jr. has a great body shots, which is about the only thing that’s outstanding about him. Here’s an unconvential pick, Mares has good body work, although most of the time they seem to land below the belt!Posted March 14, 2013
Hatton tko body shots great:-P EXPLOSIVE .also hopkins.pacmanPosted March 14, 2013
Hatton had some great body shotsPosted March 14, 2013
Very good article, always loved watching a prime Ricky Hatton going to the body, his rib breaking ko of Castillo was perfect, also agree with some of the other posters about Mayweather body punching, that sharp jab to the body he uses brings his opponents hands down helping him land cleanly with the straight right hand.
Going back a bit further Mike McCallum was a great body puncher, loved Tyson also.Posted March 14, 2013
Ricky Hatton – up to fighting Kostya he was brutal to the body at ten stone. I like his body attack best cus he throws body shots from different angles.Posted March 14, 2013
Enjoyed your article! Excellent observations, very well thought through.Posted March 14, 2013
CottoPosted March 14, 2013
Body punching is actually a lost art these days as tons of fighters want to go head-hunting all the time due to the possible result of an impressive KO.
In my eyes, majority of Mexican boxers are great at body-punching. This is why some people dubbed a boxing technique to the body as the “Mexican Liver Punch”.Posted March 14, 2013
Imo Chavez jr should be in this last, his body punches are fckin devistating.Posted March 14, 2013
The Real and True Boxing fan
Past and present, Juan Manuel Marquez, Julio Cesar Sr and Mike Tyson are 3 of the most prolific body snatchers.
Juan Manuel Marquez body shots are amazing, Marquez “Hooks to the body can crack ribs, tear organs and expose a fighter upstairs”.
Mexican fighters have mainly been the ones to attack the body. But in recent years I have seen an emergence of a few African American fighters and European fighters attacking the body.
Sure there is always an exception to the rule, as I’m sure many will start posting names, but Mexican fighters have long coined this attack.
Anyone ever hear of the “Mexican Liver shot”?Posted March 14, 2013
mayweather distract’s you with the jab and the strait rightto the body and while your trying to defend that he is scoring from different angle’s frustrating you with defense and getting hit at the same time and when it’s over 12 round’s are gone to much talentPosted March 14, 2013
Amazed at how Lucian Bute wasnt in thye top 3, he was voted by ring magazine as the best body puncher a while ago. anyone in doubt should really check it out on youtubePosted March 14, 2013
Lamont Peterson great body puncher!Posted March 14, 2013
You completely forgot Juan Manuel Marquez… he’s a dedicated body puncher with intentional purposes. Example; Manny Pacquiao’s first knock down in Rd 3.Posted March 14, 2013

Not a bad list, I guess. What about rigondeaux? Or mares? Or Hopkins? Or Ward? Or cotto? I got quite a few more to add. But, id put any of them at #1 before those guys. Especially rigondeaux.Posted March 14, 2013
