By Allan Fox: Trainer Robert Garcia says he heard Floyd Mayweather Jr. has received a huge offer to fight Conor McGregor in MMA, and he believes he’s going to fight him and BEAT him. Robert thinks Mayweather has been training secretly in MMA for the last 2 to 3 years, and he thinks he’ll know enough to defend himself against the 29-year-old McGregor’s attacks in the octagon.
Robert thinks that Mayweather, 40, will beat McGregor just like he did last time with just his boxing skills. Garcia sees Mayweather’s boxing ability being more than enough to defeat McGregor.
Mayweather defeated McGregor on August 26 last year by a 10th round TKO in their mega-fight on Showtime pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight brought in a whopping 4.3 million PPV buys. With that amount of buys, it’s understandable why Mayweather and McGregor both want to fight each other again. McGregor hasn’t fought since then even though he’s still with the UFC.
The money that McGregor was making in his UFC fights pales in comparison to the big payday he got against Mayweather. If McGregor can get a second big payday against Mayweather, then he can retire for good from the UFC. McGregor can retire now with money he made last August, but he obviously would like another big payday, especially against a fighter with no MMA skills like Mayweather.
“I said it for years ago that Mayweather is going to end up fighting in the cage, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does,” Robert Garcia said to Fighthype. “I heard they made him a huge offer. So if the money’s right. Mayweather will do it. He might be doing MMA during the last 3, 4 years. Nobody knows. I think 2, 3 years of training is good to compete,” Garcia said.
It’s doubtful that Mayweather has been training for 3 to 4 years. I don’t see that. Mayweather has been enjoying his money in the last 3 years that he made from his fight against Manny Pacquiao and his other many fights. Mayweather has been traveling a lot around the world and enjoying himself.
”With his boxing skills, I think he can beat him,” Robert said. ”Now he’s giving us that hint. I wouldn’t be surprised. I think he’ll perform well, because he’s probably been training for the last 3, 4 years. He’s not going to come into the cage without any MMA skills,” Garcia said.
If Mayweather can keep McGregor from grabbing himself, he can probably knock him out quickly. With the lightly padded gloves they use in the UFC, Mayweather’s punches will have a lot more effect. Mayweather would have to throw a lot of punches quickly to try and knockout McGregor when he tries to grab him and take him down.
”I think he still beats Conor with just his boxing skills,” Garcia said about Mayweather. ”I’m sure he’s being trained in MMA, and he’ll have some skills before his fight. But it’ll be mostly his boxing skills,” Robert G said.
