By Chris Williams: Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford thinks it’s silly for boxing fans to be already comparing Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1, 8 KOs) to Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs) to what the two of them have done in their respective careers in fighting at super featherweight. Crawford states that Mayweather was a real “monster” when he was fighting at 130.

”Floyd Mayweather was a monster at 130lbs y’all better cut the stupid talk and put some respect on that man name,” said Crawford.

Crawford is right. Mayweather was a far better fighter when he was fighting at super featherweight than what we’ve seen from Lomachenko thus far. Mayweather was knocking all the top guys, and not just clowning them with pitty-pat punches to force them to quit. Mayweather was knocking out his opponents with blistering fast punches, and beating them to the point where they were too hurt to continue.

There’s no comparison to how good Mayweather was when he was fighting at super featherweight and how Lomachenko has looked.

These are the talented fighters Mayweather beat at super featherweight:

• Tony Pep

• Genaro Hernandez

• Angel Manfredy

• Carlos Alberto Ramon Rios

• Justin Juuko

• Jesus Chavez

In comparison, Lomachenko has beaten these fighters at 130:

• Miguel Marriaga – *coming off of a loss to Oscar Valdez when he fought Lomachenko

• Gullermo Rigondeux – *moved up 2 divisions from the 122lb. weight class to fight Rigondeaux

• Roman Martinez – *recently had 3 grueling fights against Orlando Salido and Mikey Garcia at the time he fought Lomachenko

• Jason Sosa

• Nicholas Walters – *inactive for 11 months before fighting Lomachenko

In looking at the 2 records of Mayweather and Lomachenko at super featherweight, you have to conclude that Mayweather is the better fighter and did a lot more at 130 than Vasyl. For that reason, I think Mayweather would have trounce Lomachenko if the two of them fought each other years ago. Mayweather was simply on another level. Lomachenko is a good fighter, but he’s a taper and show boater. He doesn’t win his fights the way Mayweather did. There’s no comparison between them. Mayweather was an all-around superior talent than what we’ve seen from Lomachenko since he moved up to the super featherweight division.

Mayweather didn’t waste his career the way Lomachenko has in staying put at super featherweight without budging from that weight class. Mayweather didn’t stall out his career at super featherweight. He fought there briefly and then moved up to lightweight and stayed there for a little while before moving up to 140 and then 147. Lomachenko is about the same size as Mayweather, but he’s not shown the same ambition and daring.
