By Chris Williams: Jermall Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs) is anxious to get a shot against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Charlo sees flaws in both that he wants to try and expose if they’ll give him a chance.

Charlo has studied the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight a lot, and he sees a lot of stuff in that fight that he can take advantage of when he gets them inside the ring. Charlo notes that he’s bigger than the two of them, and he’s willing to let his hands go to try and win. Charlo didn’t like the way Canelo and Golovkin fought like they were so worried about getting hit in their fight on September 16. He says that’s not how he and his brother Jermell Charlo fight. They go after their opponents, and they’re willing to get hit in order to land their shots.

“They was worried about each other at the beginning,” said Charlo to Fighthype in talking about the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight. “It wasn’t like a Charlo fight. We got to fight. We got to get hit no matter what. We got to be clear about that though. You’re not going to hit me more than I hit you. It seemed like they had an agreement in this fight. The way the fight played out to me, there was going to be an aggressor and a boxer. It seemed like they were doing the opposite every time,” said Charlo.

Charlo, 27, will be fighting for the interim WBC middleweight title soon in his next fight. He doesn’t have an opponent picked out yet for him, but there should be one selected soon. Jermall is already the WBC mandatory challenger to Golovkin. There could be a title shot for Charlo against Triple G in the future once the WBC orders the two of them to fight each other. If Golovkin loses to Canelo, then his WBC title will fall vacant. Canelo hasn’t shown interest in fighting for the WBC title since he vacated his WBC middleweight title in 2016 after being ordered to defend it against Golovkin.

”The head movement from Canelo at the beginning needed a lot of work,” said Charlo. ”Canelo didn’t fight the whole round. He only fought half the round. Sometimes he’d fight at the beginning of the round, and sometimes he’d fight at the end of the round. Those were the rounds he lost, every time he didn’t start out good,” said Charlo.

Charlo is giving Canelo a little too much credit by saying he fought half the rounds against Golovkin. Canelo was fighting one-third of the rounds from what I saw of the fight. Canelo fought the first minute, and then he would get tired and use movement for the last 2 minutes. And, Canelo didn’t always lose the rounds in which he only fought a small portion of the rounds. 2 of the judges gave Canelo a lot of rounds in which he was only putting forth a minimal effort. he judges were impressed with the portion of the round Canelo fought.

I’m ready to fight one of them to see if I can do it. I’m bigger than Canelo and GGG. Give me a chance, man,” said Charlo.

Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions have never expressed interest in wanting to make a fight with Jermall Charlo or his brother Jermell. As such, it’s unlikely that Canelo will ever fight Jermall unless he becomes a huge star. Right now, Jermall isn’t a big name with the casual boxing fans. That will need to change for him to get a fight against Canelo. I do believe that Jermall would give Canelo and GGgGa lot of problems if he were to fight them. It’s just it’s not going to be easy for him to get a fight with either of them right now unless they suddenly start showing interest in fighting him.

Charlo beat Jorge Sebastian Heiland by a 4th round knockout last July to become the mandatory challenger for WBC champ GGG. Charlo wants his turn now for his title shot.
