By Allan Fox: Danny Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) is saying that the top fighters are reluctant to share the ring with him due to what he did to middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) in their fight earlier this year on March 18. Jacobs says that he’s been turned down for fights or guys haven’t shown any interest when he’s reached out to them for fights.

Jacobs mentions David Lemieux and Billy Joe Saunders as two fighters that weren’t interested in fighting him.

”We already stressed to Lemieux, but Lemieux showed no interest,” said Jacobs. ”We called out other guys like Billy Saunders. All these guys aren’t showing any interest. Right now I’m in a position where a lot of guys, they realize what I am, and they don’t want to get to that level. It’s exactly because of what I did to Golovkin. It’s because of what I am, and what I bring to the table. You’re going to see what I did to Golovkin a lot more in the future,” said Jacobs.

We’ll see if Jacobs can do the same thing he did to Golovkin to other fighters. But if he does the same thing he did to Golovkin, then he’ll lose to everyone. Jacobs didn’t appear to win a round against Golovkin until the 6th round. Jacobs had been knocked down already in the 4th round. So, by the time Jacobs won the 6th, he was in a situation where he needed to win all of the last 6 rounds to have a chance for a draw. Jacobs was hurt in the 10th and outworked in the 12th. He didn’t do enough to get the win.

Jacobs says he’s fighting a top-level fighter in his October 14th fight. I wonder who that’s going to be.

It would be nice if Jacobs one of these guys:

– Tureano Johnson

– Ryota Murata

– Sergey Derevyanchenko

– Luis Arias

– Andy Lee

– Matt Korobov

It’s doubtful that Jacobs will fight any of those guys on October 14th, because they’re all dangerous punchers and they could expose Jacobs’ chin problem. We already saw Jacobs knocked out by Dmitry Pirog in 2010. One of those guys would have a very good chance of knocking him out.

Jacobs’ next fight on October 14 will likely be against one of these middleweight contenders:

– Hugo Centeno Jr.

– Dmitry Chudinov

– Maciej Sulecki

– Rob Brant

– Tommy Langford

– Immanuwel Aleem

– Antonine Douglas

– Curtis Stevens

– Alfonso Blanco

– Jason Quigley

I think it’s going to be one of these guys that Jacobs fights. They’re no very dangerous, but they’re at least known by the hardcore boxing fans. If Jacobs doesn’t select someone from these two lists for his October 14 fight, then it means he’s going to be selecting someone obscure. That would be bad, especially with him saying that he’s fighting a top-level guy. There are a lot of fighters in the middleweight division that are technically contenders in the top 15, but their talent level is questionable.

Jacobs can get a top 15 contender that he can say is a “top level” opponent, but that doesn’t mean the fighter is going to be a good one. Jacobs can then do what he did to Golovkin by using his weight advantage to give the fighter problems, but that won’t mean much unless Jacobs fights someone that has talent and has a chance of knocking him out. That’s why it would be nice if Jacobs at least fought someone like Tureano Johnson, Derevyanchenko, Arias or Murata. At least by fighting one of those guys, Jacobs would be proving something.

Jacobs, 30, will be fighting on October 14 against an opponent still to be determined at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Jacobs says an announcement will be made within a couple of days to a week in naming his opponent for the October 14 date, but it’s going to be a top-level guy.

Jacobs thinks Adrien Broner won Mikey Garcia fight

Jacobs says he thinks that Broner, 28, did enough to rate a win in his fight against Mikey Garcia last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112. The fight wasn’t close. It looked to many boxing fans like a near shutout. Boxing News 24 scored the fight 10 rounds to 2 in favor of Garcia. It wasn’t a competitive fight. Broner didn’t throw enough meaningful punches in comparison to Garcia. Most of the punches Broner threw in the fight were jabs. He fought like he was afraid to throw power shots for fear of being countered by Garcia. It’s unknown what Jacobs saw in Broner that made him believe that he should have been given the win.

I don’t know if I agree with that,” said Jacobs to Fighthub in saying he doesn’t agree with Garcia being given the win over Broner. “It was a good fight. I think Adrien might have been up. It was a good fight. I was a little biased. I was going for AB,” said Jacobs.

It would have been interesting if Jacobs was one of the judges for the Broner-Garcia fight. If Jacobs handed in his score giving Broner the win, there would have been a huge outcry in boxing not seen since one of the judges for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez fight scored it as a draw. Jacobs picking Broner seems like something that comes out of left field. When boxing fans hear things like Jacobs thinking Broner should have won the Garcia fight, it reaffirms in their minds that Jacobs was deluded in believing that he should have won the Golovkin fight. Hearing stuff like this just strengthens the belief of some boxing fans that Jacobs can’t judge fights very well. You can argue also that Jacobs can’t see past his own bias in judging fights. I think Jacobs needs to stand back and distance himself from his favorites when picking winners of fights.

“October 14th, here at the Barclays Center.” said Jacobs about his next fight. “We’re going to make an announcement in the next couple of days or week. We’re going to move soon. It’s going to be a top level, of course. We’re not going backwards. We’re still in the game. We’re calling out Golovkin, but we’re not chasing him. We’re going to make out own move and our own thing,” said Jacobs.

It looks like Jacobs is still chasing Golovkin. He’s mentioning him in pretty much every interview I’m seeing from Jacobs. He’s talking constantly how he thinks he should have won his fight against Triple G, and he’s now even saying that boxing fans are coming up to him telling him that he should have won against Golovkin. None of this means anything. The judges are the ones that decided the outcome of the Golovkin-Jacobs fight, not the fans. The fight is done with.

Jacobs seems troubled by the loss, and he keeps replaying it by talking about it repeatedly instead of moving on to create his forge his own path. Golovkin isn’t thinking about a second fight against Jacobs right now because he’s fighting for big money against Saul Canelo Alvarez on September 16. After that, Golovkin could either fight a rematch with Canelo or turn around and face WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders in a unification match.
