By Allan Fox: As far as IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is concerned, the proposed match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC champion Conor McGregor is nothing more than just a “business fight” and not a “true fight” like his scheduled contest with Daniel Jacobs this Saturday night on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Golovkin doesn’t appear to have a great deal of respect for Mayweather’s fight against McGregor when it comes to evaluating it as a sporting event. Golovkin sees as a sideshow, circus type of fight, and his opinions are echoed by a lot of boxing fans. They don’t see the Mayweather-McGregor fight as a true fight, because it’s such a mismatch on paper. McGregor has experience in boxing. He’s never fought a pro fight in the sport. McGregor has strictly been involved in MMA.

When asked by fighnews.com if he would take a fight against McGregor, Golovkin said, “I have problem. No kids. No animals. No women. Only boxing, because I’m a boxer. True boxer. I’m not a showman. I respect my sport. I’m a very serious guy. Seriously, you want to watch true fight? Please, you are welcome Saturday night. Not sideshow. Not funny show. Old school.”

Mayweather and McGregor still haven’t negotiated a fight between them. But if a fight can be made between them, it could happen this year. Mayweather wants it, and apparently McGregor’s boss in the UFC, Dana White, isn’t going to block the match from happening. However, negotiating the Mayweather-McGregor fight is going to be a difficult process, because both fighters are superstars, and never of them are likely going to want to take the B-side position by agreeing to the smaller purse.

“It’s a very different sport for us. For me and for Floyd,” said Golovkin to TMZ.com. “It’s like business fight and true fight, boxing fight, a true situation. Everybody wants to watch their fight, Floyd and Conor, because it’s a show like a new movie. From my side, it’s a different situation. Everybody wants to watch a true fight, a true boxing fight; a different situation. I know everybody watch this,” said Golovkin.

There are enough fans out there in the sports world to make Mayweather vs. McGregor fight a huge success. But that’s not to say that those same fans will be happy if the fight turns out to be as one-sided as many boxing fans think it will.

When asked if he plans on knocking out Jacobs, Golovkin said, “I think, I hope. I want win. This is a big bonus for the fans,” said Golovkin.
