By Nedu Obi: I bet you’ve heard the rumors of a projected boxing match-up between retired pound-for-pound boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr., and mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor a gazillion times before – will-they-won’t-they, and back-and-forth again.

Here we go again!

Well, apparently, former UFC featherweight champion and incumbent lightweight titleholder McGregor was forced to cancel an appearance (Q&A session) at the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin, Ireland on Feb. 17, 2017 – “An evening at the Red Cow Moran Hotel with special guest Conor McGregor.”

The reason behind the cancellation was due to McGregor having to take a trip out to Las Vegas to consummate a deal. As of yet, there are no verified sources suggesting the aforementioned deal is anything to do with “Money” and “The Notorious,” but who knows?

Since the idea of a fistic fight under the Marquess of Queensberry rules was teased in 2016, there has been no let up by either Mayweather, 39, or McGregor, 28.

Still, the highly anticipated fight (depends on who you ask) between two of the most polarizing figures in their respective sports could finally come to fruition if this latest clishmaclaver making the rounds rings true.

Albeit we’re not privy to what these two are cooking regards a potential boxing contest, but I’m getting the feeling this is just another smokescreen to ensure they keep fans of both sports on the edge of their seats – a salivating taster of what’s about to come – or not.

As that’s the case, I wouldn’t hold my horses just yet. This is business and entertainment entwined – makes for an explosive mix of intrigue between two stars from different sports.

So, until I see both Mayweather and McGregor trading leather in a four-squared ring, I’ll put this down to sheer headline grabbing – I’m not a believer – yet.

Are you?
