By Dan Ambrose: As far as WBO super featherweight champion Vasy Lomachenko is concerned, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will beat Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez when the two of them face each in September if the fight takes place then. Lomachenko sees Golovkin as a monster with huge power.

Lomachenko isn’t the only one that is impressed with Golovkin’s power and skill. Former cruiserweight world title challenger Ola Afolabi rates Golovkin’s power as good as a heavyweight, because he’s sparred with him before in the past.

“I think Triple G, because he’s a monster,” said Vasyl Lomachenko to esnewsreporting.com when asked who wins between Canelo and Golovkin.

It’s still up in the air whether Golovkin and Canelo will face each other in 2017. It’s up to Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions. If they want the fight to take place this year, then it will. They’ve got the money to make it happen. They just need to give Golovkin the percentage split that he had his promoter Tom Loeffler are asking for.

“He hits hard,” said Ola Afolabi to esnewsreporting.com about Golovkin. “I’ve been in with the heavyweights, and he hits just as hard as them. It’s the snap. He has the snap on his punches that heavyweights don’t really have anymore. I’m not blowing smoke. The guy can hit,” said Afolabi.

Golovkin does have very good punching power. That power isn’t going to disappear no matter how long the fight is dragged out into the future. Golovkin is still going to be a hard puncher even into his 40s. If Golden Boy tries to wait Golovkin out until he’s an old man before making the fight against Canelo, it might be a bad risk.

Canelo isn’t a good enough fighter to wait far into the future. If Golden Boy wants to wait five years before making the Golovkin fight, they’re going to need to keep Canelo away from too many of the top fighters, and it’s going to look bad. Right now, there are only two of three fighters in the 160lb division that would have a good chance of beating Canelo. But once Jermall Charlo and Demetrius Andrade move up in weight to 160, it’ll be too more fighters with the talent to beat Canelo as well.

If Golden Boy is going to try and steer Canelo around all these fighters, it’s going to look bad in the eyes of the boxing world. There aren’t enough Amir Khan, Liam Smith and James Kirkland type fighters to keep Canelo busy against. The fans are going to get wise soon and realize what Golden Boy is doing by matching Canelo against weaker fighters rather than against the best.

Trainer Dewey Cooper is picking Saul Canelo Alvarez over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in their fight on May 6

“I got to go with Canelo,” said Cooper to esnewsreporint.com. “Chavez, I just don’t trust him in a big fight. He always figures out a way to come up short. Canelo is a very talented fighter. I think he has what it takes to beat Chavez. If it were Canelo-Triple G, I’d be going Triple G by knockout, but I’ll take Canelo over Chavez Jr. for sure,” said Cooper.

Canelo has to be seen as the favorite to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. right now, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to win. If Chavez Jr. comes into the fight in shape and turns the fight into a body punching war he could pull off an upset. That would be bad news for Golden Boy to have thire fighter Canelo beaten by Chavez Jr. It would be good for boxing for Chavez Jr. to win the fight but definitely bad for Canelo and Golden Boy.

When asked if IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook will face his mandatory challenger Errol Spence, Cooper said, “I’d say no. He [Brook] wouldn’t even fight Jessie Vargas. I don’t think Kell fights Errol Spence unless there’s a lot of money on the table. If they get the money on the table, then he’ll do it. If it’s not big money, then he’ll figure out a way not to do it. He’ll probably release the belt. He isn’t going to fight unless it’s for big money. Everyone thinks it’s a clean wash for Errol Spence. I think it’s a very intriguing fight. Kell Brook isn’t a bad fighter. Spence is a terrific young fighter, but I want to see him defeat one of the champions. I’d call it a 50-50 fight. I’d be leaning towards Errol Spence. I love the way he fights in the southpaw stance, so I’d lean towards him, but I think it would definitely be his toughest fight. It would be a fight that would tell is whether he’s the future of boxing or if he’s just another heavily marketed American fighter. I hope that’s not the case, but we’ll see,” said Cooper.

“I love me some Triple G,” said Cooper. “I’m taking Triple G by knockout [over Daniel Jacobs]. Danny Jacobs is a good guy, a hell of a guy, He has power too. He has that. It’s going to be very hard for Triple G also. So it’s a great test for Triple G. I just think it’s the power of Triple G, the boxing IQ. The amateur pedigree will be too much for Danny Jacobs,” said Cooper.

Speaking about the Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight, Cooper said, “I go for Anthony Joshua. I got Anthony Joshua by knockout. Klitschko has been a great ambassador to the sport of boxing. He’s a good man. He’s a great champion, but it’s time to pass the torch. Anthony Joshua is the next guy up,” said Cooper.
