By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) is already letting the fans know that he intends on making his WBA ordered fight against Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) a “Big drama show” on March 18 when the two middleweight champions fight each other on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York.

This means that Golovkin is going to turn his fight against Jacobs into a war from start to finish like he did against Kell Brook last September. Unfortunately, Brook wasn’t willing to fight a war against GGG, as we saw. Brook was on his bike from the get go and running for the hills.

It was not an entertaining fight, especially with it taking place in Brook’s home country of England in front of a mess of own fans. Golovkin eventually caught up to Brook and pounded him without mercy until his trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the white towel of surrender into the ring before Golovkin could put him down.

“I look forward to another big drama show in New York City,” said Golovkin about his fight against Jacobs.

All I can say is I sure hope Jacobs puts on a better performance than Kell Brook did against Golovkin, because I don’t see a bunch of running for the entire fight from Jacobs. Brook was on his bike from the word go against Golovkin. It didn’t even look like a fight. It was more like a cat chasing down his meal for the night.

Brook was NOT interested at all in actually fighting. It was all just pot shots from him in between running. In looking at the Golovkin-Brook fight a second time, I question whether Brook ever really had intention of winning. It looked to me like he was just trying to impress his boxing fans by landing one shot here and there before continuing his mad dash around the ring to avoid Golovkin. In other words, it looked like a game of tag, but a lot of running.

If Jacobs fights like that, it’s going to be hard on the eyes on March 18. I don’t think Jacobs is capable of running the way Brook did nor do I think he will even entertain the idea for a moment.

The difference here is that the 29-year-old Jacobs really WANTS to WIN the fight. He’s not just there to just try and raise his stock by trying to frustrate Golovkin by hitting and running for the entire fight. Anyone can do that. If you’re main focus is not to win the fight, you can land quick shots and run off before your opponent hits you.

You’re not going to win the fight, but you can definitely frustrate your opponent. That’s what Kell Brook did against Golovkin. He didn’t try to win. It just looked like he wanted to try and frustrate him by landing occasional punches and then running from him to keep from getting hit back.

If Jacobs does that against Golovkin, he’s going to be booed out of the ring. In the U.S, they expect you to fight. If you don’t, they’re going to boo you out of the ring. We saw that last Saturday night in the fight between WBO cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and Thabiso Mchunu. Usyk was just boxing and moving around the ring for much of the fight. He wasn’t sitting down on his shots, and h wasn’t trying to finish the smaller Mchunu until the 6th round. By that time, the fans were booing like crazy for the lack of action between the two fighters. I felt sorry for Usyk, because he didn’t seem to understand what the fans wanted. Someone should have clued Usyk in before the fight about how he needed to fight for him not to get booed. Usyk wants to become a big star in the U.S, but he failed to fight in the way that he needed to in order to achieve that goal until the 9th round.

“I’m excited about facing Gennady and proving I’m the best middleweight in the world,” said Jacobs. ”On March 18th, I’m bringing the belts back to Brooklyn with me.”
Well, if Jacobs can beat Golovkin, he’s going to turn the boxing world upside down with the victory.

Jacobs is the underdog, and it’s not hard to understand why. Jacobs has faced NOBODY during his career. No, I don’t consider Peter Quillin and Sergio Mora as quality fighters. Sorry, they’re too flawed in my book. Those two are seen as the best guys that Jacobs has fought up until this fight against GGG. But if Jacobs can beat Golovkin, then it will open the doors for him to get a fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez.

I don’t see that fight happening. Jacobs is with Al Haymon and Canelo with Golden Boy Promotions. Believe me; that fight is not going to happen. If Jacobs beats Golovkin, then he’ll stay in his lane and Canelo will stay in his.

The tickets for the Golovkin vs. Jacobs fight go on sale this Saturday on December 24. That’s good news for the boxing fans, because there will be plenty of time for the fans to scoop up the tickets eagerly to sell out the fight. It DEFINITELY will sell out. Let me tell you. The fans are going to buy all these tickets up quickly, and there’s still so MUCH time before the March 18th fight. I can’t see the tickets not being sold out by the end up January, because there’s so much interest in this fight.
