By Eric Baldwin: WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-2, 12 KOs) says he would like to fight Gennady “GGG” Golovkin when/if he moves up to the 168lb division. Jack doesn’t know if Golovkin will want to him though. He says he heard that Golovkin doesn’t see him or IBF 168lb belt holder James DeGale as big enough names for him to move the move up in weight to super middleweight.

Jack would still like to get the fight though if he could. It a great scalp if he could beat Golovkin and be the first one to defeat him. Golovkin (36-0, 32 KOs) has had it easy since turning pro, and his opposition doesn’t seem to be improving. In Golovkin’s last fight, he defeated welterweight Kell Brook last September in a mismatch in London, England.

Brook ended up with a broken eye socket for his troubles. It must be hard for Brook. He had to move up in weight to fight a middleweight.

“The only other guy, I mean, it would be if he moves up, is Triple G that makes sense as far as the big fights,” said Jack to Fighthype.com. “But he’s at a different network; politics is there. And I don’t know if he wants to move up to 68. And I heard he said that he don’t want to fight me and James DeGale because we’re not big names for him. I know I’m not a big star yet, so I understand that, but as far as challenge and as far as boxing-wise, that would be a better challenge than fighting welterweights and stuff. I like Golovkin. I like the way he fights.”

It would be a good fight between Golovkin and Badou Jack. It would be a lot better than the recent mismatch between Golovkin and Kell Brook. I don’t know what people are talking about when they say it was a good fight. I don’t think it was. Brook didn’t have the power to hurt Golovkin, and all he could do was hit and move. After the 2nd round, it was really a slaughter. Brook was running and getting hammered each time he would get cornered.

Golovkin may move up in weight one of these days. Who knows? It looks like he’s currently trying to win all the belts at middleweight, and he still has the WBO title to capture. Golovkin also wants to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. He’s the popular Mexican fighter that Golden Boy Promotions has been guarding like the crown jewels.

They’re going to make sure that they make the fight with Golovkin when the time is right for them and for Canelo. that could mean the fight won’t get made until Golovkin is toothless and using a cane to get around. It’s understandable why Golden Boy doesn’t want to make the Canelo-Golovki fight while Triple G is in his prime. They don’t have to match Canelo against good fighters for him to bring in 300K pay-per-view buys each time he fights.

They can feed him guys like Liam Smith and James Kirkland, and boxing fans will pay to see these mismatches. If all Golden Boy does for the next 10 years is feed Canelo weak opposition three times per year on PPV, he’ll make them a lot of money. They probably will make the Golovkin fight with Canelo, but not until Golovkin has aged a little more. The nonsense about Canelo needing to grown into the 160lb weight is ridiculous.

Canelo has been a full middleweight for the last three years. He does well in melting down to 155 to fight guys from the 147, 154 and 160lb weight classes. It works for Canelo, because the welterweights and junior middleweights aren’t heavy enough to beat him. Canelo looks like a big middleweight after he rehydrates. Canelo also has an advantage in fighting middleweights, because then they would need to melt down to 155 to fight him. It’s a win-win situation for Canelo.

Badou wants to fight DeGale next, but he’s saying there’s network problems and money that is getting in the way of the fight.

“It don’t make no sense really to fight nobody else. I want another belt. That’s the big money fight,” said Badou about fighting DeGale for his IBF title. “That’s what the fans want to see, the best fighting the best.”
