By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook has already had surgery on his broken right eye socket that he suffered against knockout artist Gennady Golovkin earlier this month on September 10 in London. Brook wants to get back inside the ring in early 2017 to resume his career. When Brook does get back into action again, he only wants to be fighting the best in boxing.

Brook specifically wants Saul Canelo Alvarez, Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto. That sounds like a good plan on the face of it, as Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) might be able to get one of those names to fight him straightaway in early 2017. However, it might become increasingly difficult for Brook to get all of those big names to fight him unless he starts winning again.

In other words, if Brook gets beaten by Canelo, Cotto or Khan in his next fight, it’s doubtful that the other names are going to want to bother fighting him. After all, Brook will have lost two straight fights by that time. You can’t make a career out of losing and then saying that you were doing well during the fight despite getting beaten.

You need to actually win to get the big fights, and I have a feeling that Brook is not going to be able to beat the likes of Khan, Cotto or Canelo. I’m just saying. With that Brook looked against Golovkin, I don’t think he can beat even Khan, much less guys like Canelo and Cotto.

“Kell is good, though, and doesn’t want any delays before his next fight – he wants to be out again early in the New year, rather than later.

“After fighting Golovkin, Kell only wants to box seriously big names, like Amir Khan, Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto. Big fights and titles on the line, that’s what you need from this moment on,” said Brook’s trainer Dominic Ingle to thestar.co.uk. “The surgeon – who was called Mohammed Ali, believe it or not – went up through his gums, his front teeth, moved an eye to one side and then sorted out the fracture.”

It’s going to be interesting to see if Brook can come back from his broken right eye socket injury or not. We’ll find out in Brook’s next fight if his surgically repaired right eye is going to be hold up under the pounding of a boxing match or not. My guess is we could see a bunch of swelling for that eye once Brook starts getting hit by left hooks or whatever in his next fight. If Brook takes on a big puncher like Canelo, it’s going tough on the eye to take those shots. It wouldn’t be surprising news for me if Brook’s eye closes up once he gets nailed a couple times on the eye.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn made it a point to say after the Golovkin fight that Brook was ahead on the scorecards at the time the fight was halted in the 5th round. One judge had Brook unbelievably ahead by a three rounds to one score after four rounds, whereas the other two head it even at two apiece. Boxing News 24 had Golovkin ahead three rounds to one. We had Brook winning the 2nd round, and losing rounds one, three and four.
