By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) will be fighting the unranked Sergio Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs) in a rematch that few boxing fans want to see next month on September 9 at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. It’s anyone’s guess why Jacobs’ management choose to have him fight the 35-year-old Mora for a second time, because it’s not a fight that the fans want to see a fan except for Mora’s fans.

Jacobs already stopped Mora in the 2nd round last year, and fighting him a second seems like a pointless endeavor. Jacobs, 29, says he’s hoping that Mora doesn’t make it a boring fight because he wants it to be an exciting fight for the fans for as long as it lasts.

If the match plays out like their previous one last year, it will likely end early with Jacobs knocking Mora out in two or three rounds. The fight could end sooner of Mora blows out another ankle like he did last time.

Jacobs-Mora will be shown on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike on Friday, September 9 at 9 pm Eastern time.

“Now that he says he felt the power of myself he says he’s going to completely switch the game plan,” said Jacobs to fightnews.com. “I just hope it’s not a stinker man. You’re getting a second opportunity at my world title, please let’s not make it a snoozer. We’re both receiving a lot of criticism for this fight, but dude, please let’s just make it exciting.”

I think it’s pretty obvious that Mora isn’t going to even consider trading with Jacobs in this fight. It didn’t work last time with Mora getting knocked down twice. I can’t see him even considering for a second time getting in the pocket and slugging with Jacobs in the rematch. Mora did knock Jacobs down in round one last year, but that was a situation where Jacobs had forgotten about his defensive completely after having put Mora down in the same round. Jacobs was a lot better in the 2nd round in which he focused on loading up on big single shots to the head of Mora.

There was no way that Mora could stop the single punches, and it was only a matter of time before Jacobs knocked him out in the clinical sense. If Mora’s ankle hadn’t given out on him in round two, he was going to get knocked out.

Mora will likely be using movement, jabbing and counter punching to try and win the fight. He’s not going to unload on Jacobs, because he doesn’t have the tools to win a fight like that.

It’ll be a big surprise if Mora is able to make if the distance in this fight, because he’s too old, too inactivity and too underequipped in the power department.

What is really hard to understand is why Jacobs’ management chose to make this rematch. I don’t know if it’s a case of them having a tin ear to what the boxing public wants, of it’s a confidence issue with them not feeling confident about Jacobs. I know if I’m Jacobs, I wouldn’t feel good if my management wanted me to fight Mora a second time. I would wonder whether they believe in me or not. I would not feel comfortable with taking this fight again, because it’s such a backwards move for Jacobs.
