By Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Wladimir Klitschko said earlier Wednesday that he will be looking to take IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to court over their rescheduled October 29 rematch in Manchester, England. The two giant heavyweights were originally supposed to have faced each other two months ago on July 9, but Fury suffered an ankle injury training that caused the fight to be postponed three months until October 29. However, the negotiations seem to have hit a snag, as Wladimir has decided to take to social media to say he’s going to take it to court. It’s unclear whether Wladimir is serous or not.

Fury is going to have major problems when he does eventually fight Wladimir because it’s going to be a completely different fight than the last one they had. Wladimir will have made adjustments and will be looking to take Fury’s head off with every punch. Fury can’t make the same adjustments because he lacks punching power We already saw Fury spoiling like made against Wladimir last November. Fury can’t spoil anymore than he already did, can he?

Here’s Wladimir’s statement on his Twitter account:

“I just want to keep you updated on the status of my rematch against Fury. Unfortunately, Team Fury is trying to change the terms of the already signed contract multiple times and it’s going on endlessly. To protect my own rights and eventually see the rematch, I’m forced to go to court.”

It’s hard to know what in the negotiations that have led to Wladimir to start talking legal actions. He says Fury is trying to change the terms of the contract.

Fury posted a photo of himself next to an automobile displaying the date of October 29 for the rematch with Wladimir last week.

For the start of his training camp for the July 9 scheduled fight, Fury came into the camp overweight. He appeared to have taken off a lot of the weight at the time that he suffered the injury. Whether Fury had taken off all the weight is debatable. It might not have even mattered though. Fury was in tip top shape when he beat Wladimir by a 12 round unanimous decision last November, and he still barely won the fight. The only reason Fury won was because Wladimir wouldn’t let his hands go, you can argue. If that was the best Fury that you’re ever going to see under the most ideal conditions, then it doesn’t seem too likely that Fury would be able to hang with a motivated Wladimir for the rematch. Wladimir has had weeks to digest what he did wrong in their previous fight and formulate a plan to defeat Fury’s negative fighting style. It’s my guess that Wladimir has already come up with a gem of a game plan to easily get the better of Fury the second time around in the rematch and knock him out.

The rematch between Wladimir and Fury has got to take place at some point in time. Unless Fury suffers another injury of some type, the fight has got to take place. The two fighters need to get it over with so that they can move on. Fury says he wants to fight IBF champion Anthony Joshua and WBC champ Deontay Wilder. Fury can’t get to them until he faces Wladimir for the second time.
I see it ending badly for Fury when he does eventually get inside the ring with Wladimir. I think Fury only won their previous fight because Wladimir wasn’t willing to throw punches. Had Wladimir did what he was physically capable of doing in letting his hands go, I think he would have blasted Fury into oblivion in short order.

Wladimir’s brother Vitali Klitschko likely would have had no problem defeating Fury’s style if the two of them had fought each other during Vitali’s career. Vitali was never bashful when it came to throwing right hands, and he would have strapped Fury against the ropes and pounded him round after round. Of course, Vitali was known for having a great chin, so he could handle the slaps that Fury would throw back at him. I doubt that he would have paid much attention to those punches. Vitali avenged Wladimir’s knockout defeats to Corrie Sanders and Ross Puritty by knocking both guys out.

When/if Wladimir does eventually get the rematch against Fury at some point in the future; it’ll be interesting to see where he goes afterwards. If Wladimir whips Fury, does he choose to go the path of Joshua or Deontay, or does he opt to just defend the straps against the many contenders in the division?
