By Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions hasn’t given up on the idea of matching his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) against contender Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs). Loeffler was unable to get an agreement from Eubank Jr. and his father Chris Eubank Sr. for a fight in September this time around, but he’s still interested in getting that fight made.

Loeffler says he’d like to put the Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight together for December after GGG takes care of business against welterweight Kell Brook on September 10.

“If we can do a Eubank fight in December, that would be great,” Loeffler said to Ringtv.com. “If we can do Danny Jacobs — there are so many fighters out there that now we have six months down the road to see what happens.”

WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs has already said recently that he wants to wait a year and a half before he fights Golovkin, because ehe believes it’ll be a bigger fight by that point.

Eubank Jr. might wind up on the undercard of Golovkin’s fight against Brook on September 10. That’s the idea that his promoter Eddie Hearn has. He’d like to have Eubank Jr. seen on that card so that he can match him against the winner of the fight, be it Brook or Golovkin. Brook is the underdog in the fight, and he pretty much only has a puncher’s chance of winning against Golovkin. Brook doesn’t have the boxing ability to win a decision against a fighter like Golovkin. We’ll probably see Golovkin and Eubank Jr. fighting each other in December if the fight can get negotiated.

It’s still unclear whether a fight between Golovkin and Eubank Jr. can get made, however. If Eubank Sr. is unable to agree to the contract terms like recently, then Golovkin will need to go in another direction for his fight in December. Eubank Jr. is going to need to think about stepping in and becoming his own negotiator. This is the third big fight that Eubank Jr. has failed to take. He’s had chances to fight a rematch against Billy Joe Saunders and failed to do so. Eubank Jr. didn’t take a fight against Jacobs this year after becoming his mandatory challenger last year. We saw recently Eubank Jr. fail to get the Golovkin fight. If he’s just going to defend his British middleweight title his entire career, then he’ll be really short-changing himself.
