By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Peter Fury has confirmed the new date of October 29 for the rematch between IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

Wladimir’s manager Bernd Boente told the Bild, a German news site, yesterday that Wladimir will be facing Fury on October 29. Now the date has been confirmed by Fury’s trainer Peter. Never the less, it still doesn’t mean the fight will take place on that date, because both fighters will need to make it through their respective training camps without suffering any kind of injuries.

Wladimir has had injury problems in that past, most notably last year for his fight against Fury. Wladimir suffered a calf injury that pushed the fight to November. Wladimir was also injured while getting ready for his title defense against Kubrat Pulev in 2014.

“Fury’s trainer and uncle, Peter, last night confirmed that rescheduled date is indeed October,” said Irish-boxing.com.

Fury is dealing with a severely sprained ankle he suffered while training for the Klitschko fight, which was supposed to be taking place on July. Fury supplied photos of his injured ankle to show that he is indeed hurt. However, boxing fans have been speculating that the flabby Fury needed more time trim off the excess tonnage that he packed on after his narrow win over Wladimir last November.

These fans think Fury chose to have the fight postponed until he burns off all the weight he’s added to his 6’9” frame. I’m not into conspiracy theories. If Fury were faking, I don’t know how would come up with a black and blue ankle, like the one he showed in pictures. That doesn’t make sense to me. I mean, the guy has got to be injured.

The injury obviously works in Fury’s favor because there was no way on earth that he was going to be able to burn off that lard by the previously scheduled date of July 9 for the Klitschko rematch. But with fight now rescheduled for October 29, Fury will have no problems whatsoever taking off the extra weight by that time.

Heck, Fury might even take too much weight off if he’s not careful. I don’t think Fury should get below 247. He’ll look like a giant beanpole if he gets down that low. For Fury’s fight last November, he weighed in at 247, which was the lowest weight for him since his fight against Martin Murray in April 2012.

It’s pretty obvious why Fury got down so low for the Klitschko fight. Fury needed to be really light so that he could run around the ring for 12 rounds to avoid getting knocked out by Wladimir. It worked in Fury’s favor only because Wladimir fought so timidly and looked so clueless in trying to cut off the ring.

A halfway decent heavyweight with a fearless attitude and the ability to cut off the ring would have made Fury miserable. I can’t imagine Fury being able to survive for more than three or four rounds using that same running style against a talent like Deontay Wilder. Fury would get trapped against the ropes, and nailed with a right hand by Wilder, and that would be it.

Even guys like Luis Ortiz and Kubrat Pulev would have an easy time figuring out how to take the air out of Fury’s tires by hitting him with body shots. The one thing a fighter can do against a runner like Fury is to stab him in the midsection with jabs to take the air out of them. Wladimir didn’t have a clue that he needed to do that. His whole career he’s been trained to fight in a certain way against guys that come at him. When he got in there with Fury, he didn’t know what to do despite his brother Vitali Klitschko and trainer Johnathon Bank telling him what to do in his corner.

“We believe that the rematch takes place, namely on October 29th in the Manchester Arena. The rest is not in our hands,” said Wladimir’s manager Bernd Boente to the Bild.de.
I don’t think it matters that Fury has more time to take off the fat that he’s put on. I think he’s going to have problems against Wlladimir in this fight because he’s going to be getting hit a lot more this time than he did last time. I seriously doubt that Fury can handle Wladimir’s crushing power shots, whether it is from his right or left hand.
