By Yannis Mihanos: It always feels great to watch encounters that bring in mind the mythical battle of David vs. Goliath, the tiny vs. the giant. IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KO’s) is the rising star from England who dares to challenge the top gun of the middleweight division, one of the most feared fighters of our time: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KO’s).

Golovkin and Brook will be fighting on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Their fight will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing in the States and on Sky Box Office pay-per-view in the UK.

Boxing brings all kinds of elements, often fights are cherry picked by the fighters or their promoters and end up very much one sided. And let’s face it, nobody likes one sided affairs. We are all in this sport because we like competitive and exciting fights.

After watching welterweight Amir Khan getting stopped badly in the 6th round by the much bigger middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last May, many fans have become skeptical about watching again something similar. An encounter of David vs. Goliath has its own pitfalls after all…

Golovkin has some amazing artillery in his hands and he is extremely durable, a real force of nature.

Brook is a different kind of fighter. With his decision to fight Golovkin , his career has come full circle; now there is no going back and that’s the whole point of being a real champion, keep pushing beyond comfort zone.

To avoid having the same fate that all other opponents of Golovkin had, Brook must reach higher standards than usual because his opponent is like no one he has ever faced before.

I hate to speak so hypothetically about a fight but it’s the only thing I can do right now. If Brook can take the power of Golovkin and remains composed then there is the possibility for a great match, a real contest of David vs. Goliath. If not, this will be another fight of many.

To say the truth, I don’t know whether Brook can become the new David. I know for sure that Golovkin is equal to Goliath for most boxers out there today.

It’s a fact that there are not many out there willing to risk their boxing records and lose their loyal followers. Big star Canelo falls into this category, along with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya speak always about taking steps before coming face to face with the real champ. Fear is present and you can’t deny it.

For now, Brook has defied all warnings and prophecies and goes ahead for the biggest fight of his life on home soil in London, England.

This will be an epic moment for him, one that might cement him into history’s greats.
