By Jeff Aranow: The well-known Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says that welterweight Kell Brook (36-0 25 KOs) is going to suffer the same fate that Amir Khan did recently when he made the move to step up in weight two divisions to take on a powerful middleweight in Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Arum says he sees the 30-year-old Brook getting knocked out by IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their fight on September 10th. In fact, Arum gives Brook zero chance of winning the fight against Triple G.

Arum respects Brook for the courage he’s showing in taking the Golovkin fight, but he sees it ending with him getting sparked out at some point. Arum says that a lot of British fighters are “masochists.”

“Brook has a big set of balls to go in with Golovkin,” said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to Fightype.com. “It’s Kell that’s going to take the punches, not me. I think a lot of English fighters have a reputation for being masochists. Amir Khan got himself knocked out pretty good by Canelo. I think Kell Brook wants to do Amir Khan one better. I don’t give him [Brook] a chance [against Golovkin],” said Arum.

I don’t know if you can say that some British fighters have a masochistic mindset per say. I think it’s more of a case of some of them being shutout of the big fights against the top fighters. Some of them may not have patience to wait around for one of the top names to eventually fight him. Boxing is politicized nowadays. It becomes very, very difficult for top fighters to face top guys from rival promotions.

I think what Brook and Khan is showing is an impatience with the process. Instead of waiting around for the likes of the big names to fight them, they chose to move up to middleweight to take on the two biggest stars in that division. Khan made a lot of money for the Canelo fight, and Brook figures to make even more fighting Golovkin. The only problem with these guys taking on powerful middleweights is that is that they end up being horribly over-matched and could get hurt. Khan did get hurt.

We don’t know what’s going to happen with Brook in the case of his fight against Golovkin. It doesn’t help Brook that he doesn’t move well and doesn’t have much of an inside game. Golovkin will surely cut off the ring on Brook and look to take him out quickly on September 10.
