By Danny Esch: As the June 25 fight between WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) draws near excitement is building once again for this highly anticipated showdown between two of arguably the best fighters in the 147 division on CBS.
WBA Champion Keith “One Time” Thurman will once again defend his title against a close friend who will now become a close foe at the Barclays in Brooklyn New York. The name “One Time” is a badge of honor that Thurman wears on his sleeve to remind him that in the world of boxing all it takes is just “One Time” to change the direction of a fight or to end a fight just one punch “one time”and it’s lights out for either you or your opponent.
This passed week Thurman released a sparring video that was rumored to exist and showed the domination of his opponent Shawn Porter. Team Porter went on the attack about this sparring session before it surfaced during Keith Thurmans recovery after his car accident and in my opinion neither fighter dominated the other and Kenny Porter filled the boxing public with a lot of hot air. A recent interview was conducted featuring Floyd Mayweather Sr. by the guys over at TSS (Tru School Sports) and I was shocked to hear Mayweather’s praise of Keith Thurman.
Reporter: “Who do you like in the Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter Fight?
Mayweather: “Man….believe me as I tell you ..believe me as I tell YOU. Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman (pause) Keith Thurman is going to beat the hell out of him (Porter). He (Thurman) is going to beat the hell out of him (Porter) I can tell you that”.
Floyd Mayweather’s Sr. friend cuts in to object to his comments about Shawn Porter.
Friend: “Porter might out hustle Thurman like I always said about Porter like he did Adrien Broner.”
Mayweather: “Listen, this guy right here (Thurman), when guys “know” how you are they are going to look at your videos and they are going to see how you keep coming and all he (Thurman) has to know is to just step back and ..BANG and shoot the right hand right down the pipe and more than likely Shawn Porter is going to hit the ground.”
Reporter: “Shawn Porter is a strong fighter though but he keeps coming forward.”
Mayweather:” YES, and that is when the right hand of Thurman is going to come right down the middle, you just watch what I tell you that right hand of Thurman. If Broner dropped Porter than don’t even worry about it cause the “Hitman” (Thurman) got him. The “Hitman” is going to be there I’m telling you. What’s that guys name (Pause)..(sings) “ONE TIME” Thurman cause that’s all it takes is just one time.”
