Will Mayweather come back?

Image: Will Mayweather come back?By Yannis Mihanos: It’s been some months since his official announcement to retirement but Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) remains in the spotlight of boxing. The majority of the world would love to see him come back and take a fight against someone like IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs).

The public wants Mayweather to comeback not necessarily for winning, quite the contrary, I would say many just want to see him losing. Of course, that doesn’t concern Floyd, not at all.

Many boxing stars have returned after retirement. Recently, Oscar De La Hoya had some thoughts of coming back too for a fight against Golovkin, but eventually he realized that this would have been wrong.

So will Mayweather ever come back? Before I answer I will to give you a word as a hint: winning

Through his active years as a fighter, Mayweather developed a unique formula in boxing. In this formula he accumulated many different elements with a single purpose: winning.

Money is big part of this formula, some may say that’s not new since we all know what his obsession and middle name is: “Money.” So with this logic a lucrative offer will bring him back in a second, right? Wait… You are close but wait.

Boxing record.

Many point to his unbeaten boxing record as the decisive element. Through the years Mayweather has been accused of cherry picking opponents just for the sake of winning. A method developed by paper champs and managers. But paper champs cannot play at the highest level, the level that Mayweather was playing all these years. Floyd is very well known for his strategic mind, when it comes to boxing in all of his fights he left nothing out. He exposed all of his opponent weaknesses and beat them all decisively.

Conclusion: Floyd will return as soon as he has found a suitable opponent. One that he most likely beat. Right? Again this is pretty close to the answer but there is still something missing.

Another thing that Mayweather very much values is his health. We all know that boxing is not for those faint at heart. Mayweather in his career made sure with his defensive skills to avoid any significant damage. Unlike other fighters who went out for the kill he developed the sweet science of boxing with Hard work and Dedication. Uncle Roger Mayweather instilled him the art of defense and his father did too.

If you can’t get hit, then you can’t get injured? And so you remain healthy right? Double Right. But what about winning? Let’s not forget what we are here for. You must hit when you don’t get hit, this is boxing remember? The one who hits more wins. So as an extra ingredient he mastered his counter attack skills.

Conclusion: a fighter is wanted who cannot hit him. Bingo!! That’s it. Formula complete. Healthy and Wealthy that’s his winning formula.

Final conclusion: Lucrative offer + suitable opponent = comeback in 2016 or 2017 for Mayweather.
