Tyson Fury removes shirt at press conference, looks fat

fury#1By Scott Gilfoid: At today’s press conference a very fat looking IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) removed his shirt at his press conference with former world champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) in Manchester, UK.

Fury’s midsection looked very, very fat like a non-athlete that has had a lot of couch time. Fury then proudly admitted that he came into his current training camp close to 60 pounds’ overweight. He said he was four stones overweight, which comes out to 56lbs. Fury says he’s taken on one stone [14lbs] already.

Fury has a little over two more months to go before his rematch with Wladimir on July 9 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. However, judging by how much lard Fury has around his pendulous belly, I’d say he’s facing a nearly impossible task to burn off all that blubber in the next 2 months. That kind of fat looks like a four to six-month job, not a 2-month piece of work.

Wladimir must really like his chances of winning the rematch after seeing how fat Fury is. Wladimir looked to be paying close attention to Fury’s midsection when he stripped off his shirt.

At 40, Wladimir might need all the help he can get to try to win because he looks he’s a shot fighter at this point in his career. The timing is gone, the reflexes are gone, and of course he doesn’t have the aggressiveness needed to win. The only thing Wladimir still has is his punching power and his size. The size didn’t help him last time, so I doubt it will this time as well.

“I hate every second of training. I hate boxing. I hate the lot,” said Fury via skysports.com. “I hate speaking to you idiots. I’d rather be at home watching television with my kids and eating chocolate. I hate boxing but I’m just too good at it and I’m making too much money. Easy money to be made.”

I don’t think Fury needs to tell the fans that he hates training. We can see it just by looking at Fury’s pear-shaped physique. He looks like he swallowed an entire turkey in one seating. There’s a big lump of blubber around Fury’s midsection and reminds me of my pet African Rock Python I had a long time ago after it would have a meal. I don’t think Fury is going to be able to take that much fat off in just two months.

If Fury still hasn’t taken it off by the end of July, then he can pretty much forget taking off the rest in the week to go before his fight in July. Fury cannot afford to still be stripping fat off by July because he’ll be too weak to fight. The really bad thing about taking off the kind of weight that Fury has put on is that by the time you take it all off, you feel weaker than you were before you put it on.

It’s really hard to take that much blubber off and not weaken yourself in the process. The only real way of doing it is to take the weight off slowly over a six to eighth month period. Unfortunately for Fury, he doesn’t have six to eight months to slowly burn that stubborn blubber off. Fury has to take it off quickly in training camp in the next two months.

As such, Fury is turning his training camp into a glorified fat farm. I mean, how do you honestly spar guys when you’ve got that big lump of blubber attached to your waist? You can’t. Fury’s sparring partners are likely going to give him pure nightmares as they work him over due to him being so fat.

There’s a lesson to be learned from all of this, of course. If you’re an athlete, you can’t afford to let yourself go like this until you’re retired from the sport. Then you can ease off and eat whatever you want. Even then, it’s not a good idea if you want a long life. I’m just wondering what Fury ate to get this fat in just five months? Fury just fought last November in his win over Wladimir in Dusseldorf, Germany. How did he get so fat in just five months?

“I don’t live a strict lifestyle. I don’t live an athlete’s lifestyle. You couldn’t call me an athlete,” said Fury. “They [legacies] don’t mean a lot to me. Boxing doesn’t even mean much to me otherwise I wouldn’t go into camp four stone [heavy] every week having eaten every pie in Lancashire and drunk every pint in the UK. People do these sports for different reasons. Wladimir is already a multi-millionnaire so it’s obviously something he loves to do. When you’re like that, you’re capable of anything.”

Well, if boxing doesn’t mean much to Fury, then he needs to cash out with his fight against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in November. They both seem to want the fight, and it’ll make Fury a mountain of sweet cash whether he wins or loses the contest.

My advice though would be for Fury not to let off with his training if he can somehow beat Wladimir on July 9. If Fury can stay in shape up until the time he faces Joshua in November, he’ll have a chance of winning the fight. But if Fury packs on another 56lbs like he did this time, I see him getting blasted to smithereens. I mean, you can only go to the well so many times before your body no longer can respond in taking that weight off like you need to.

I think it was a bad idea for Fury to let himself go like this after his win over Wladimir. I can see Fury doing it again if he beats Wladimir. Future events cast their shadows before. Fury will likely start eating and stop training after the Wladimir rematch and wind up putting on another mess of weight.

“I don’t take boxing seriously, as you can tell. It’s about getting a few quid and putting food on the table. What’s the point in practicing your job for 40 years if you can’t beat a fat man? Want to see love-handles? Want to see a belly? But can I fight? Yes,” said Fury. “Does that look like a fighter’s body? Clearly not. That’s who beat you [Wladimir]. Shame on you! A fat man beat him and relieved him of all his belts. I am really a joke aren’t I? When you think about it, it’s quite funny. Every single time, I’m the outlaw, the villain, the bad guy – every single media event. People obviously like to see that – the majority do.”

Oh man, Fury is even admitting that he’s fat. It’s so, so sad. I mean, yeah, it is bad that Wladimir lost to Fury because the fight was so winnable for him if he had the sense to throw some punches. Wadimir looked like he was in shock for that fight against Fury. His trainer Johnathon Banks and brother Vitali Klitschko were both pleading with Wladimir to start attacking Fury, but he wouldn’t/couldn’t do it for some reason. He just would not throw punches. I have to say that if Wlladimir fights like that in the rematch, then it won’t matter how fat Fury comes in for the fight. Fury will win simply because he’s able to throw punches and willing to take chances.
