Tyson Fury needs to lose over 40lbs for Klitschko fight

fury67By Scott Gilfoid: IBO/WBA/WBA heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) is reportedly three stones (42lbs) overweight as he prepares for his July 9th rematch against the hard hitting 40-year-old Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

Fury is confident that he’ll be able to burn the blubber off his pear-shaped body by the time the fight takes place in 11 weeks from now, but he might not be able to do it without draining himself. 11 weeks is like Marine Corp boot camp for Fury, and that’s an awful lot of weight to take off.

IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua took a shot at Fury recently, calling him a “fat boy.” Fury took the jibe okay initially, but now he’s defending himself by pointing out that he’s beaten fighters with more muscles and better bodies than him in the past. I guess Wladimir and Steve Cunningham would be good examples of that, although Fury hardly looked good against either of those guys.

“I am never going to be Mr. Universe and I don’t need to be. I am a fighting man,” said Fury to skysports.com. “That’s what I am. I am a natural fighter. I am the Gypsy King. I don’t need muscles – and you can’t put muscles on your chin. I’ve beaten plenty of six packs, don’t worry about that.”

I think Fury is kidding himself about him not needing muscles. I think he’s going to need muscles to beat Wladimir in the rematch, and unfortunately I don’t see Fury getting any muscles by the time he faces the Ukrainian for a second time.

With Fury turning his training camp into pretty much a fat farm so that he can burn off that 40+ pounds of blubber weight, he’s not going to be able to put any muscle weight on for the Klitschko fight. Training camp will be used to take fat off, not put muscle weight on.

I’m just surprised that Fury eased off on his training after his win over Wladimir last November. The smart thing for Fury to do would have been to stay in the gym and keep in condition because he knew he had a rematch with Wladimir that he needed to take care of. There was a rematch clause in their contract for their fight last November that Fury knew about. As such, he should have stayed in peak condition so that he could use his next training camp for hard training on fundamentals and strategy rather than on burning off useless blubber weight.

What a dumb move on Fury’s part to let himself get fat like that. Now he’s got to sweat and suffer to try and get all that lard off in time for his rematch against Wlaidmir on July 9, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fury is still carrying around some stubborn fat attacked to his waist when he gets inside the ring with an in shape and finely tuned Wladimir.

“Whatever they put in front of me, I’ve got the agility and the style to beat and overcome them. You know why? Because I’m a gypsy and gypsies adapt to any situation and any environment,” said Fury.

Oh brother, Fury beats a timid and old Wladimir, and all of a sudden he’s bragging about how he can beat any heavyweight in the division. I think Fury needs to come down to earth and put his feet back on the ground and realize that Deontay Wilder is still out there waiting for him. Deontay is like a giant five miles across asteroid hitting towards Fury. You know Deontay is out there, but there’s not much Fury will be able to stop him once he hits.
