1-Spence v Algieri_Fight_Ryan Greene _ Premier Boxing Champions1By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter is picking unbeaten Errol Spence (20-0, 17 KOs) to defeat IBF champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) when the two of them face each other in the future. Like many boxing fans and members of the media, Porter was highly impressed with Spence’s 5th round knockout win over Chris Algieri this month in their fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Spence accomplished what no other fighter had done before in stopping Algieri. Porter doesn’t think Algieri has been the same fighter since his grueling win over Ruslan Provodnikov in 2014. Algieri got the win, but he took some punishment early in the fight before he was able to get on his bike and box his way to a decision.

“I think he looked very impressive against Algieri, but then again, Algieri has not been the same guy we saw when he fought [Ruslan] Provodnikov by fighting through a storm to win that fight,” said Porter to Fighthype.com. “I think he beats Kell Brook. I think he’s got everything that it takes. He’s a very good fighter. I’m not the one to judge whether he’s ready or not. Only he can do that, and only his team can do that. Put him in the ring with Kell Brook and we’ll see what happens,” said Porter.

There it is. Porter says Spence will beat Brook. Porter is kind of an expert on Brook, because he fought him two years ago and he knows what his limitations are as a fighter.

At this point we don’t know if Brook and Spence will ever face each other. The International Boxing Federation just gave Brook a huge gift by ordering Spence to fight the Top Rank promoted Konstantin Ponomarev, and that’s a fight that will only get made if Spence’s manager Al Haymon is able to put a fight together with Top Rank. I don’t know if it will.

If Spence is going to need to fight someone from Top Rank in order to get a fight against Brook, then the fight may never happen. I can’t see Brook volunteering to fight someone as talented as Spence in a voluntary defense. Why would he? If you look at the guys that Brook has built his resume fighting, mostly soft fighters, he’s not going to want to get in the ring with someone good all of a sudden like Spence. That would be too risky and I can’t see it going well for Brook at all. Porter said it himself that Spence beats Brook, and you have to believe Porter because he fought Brook previously so he should know.

Spence isn’t going to get a title shot againt Brook anytime soon. Even if Spence does agree to fight Ponomarev, I don’t see Brook agreeing to fight Spence until he’s literally forced to take the fight by the IBF. Brook is more interested in fighting guys like Tim Bradley, Danny Garcia, Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto. I dont know if Brook will ever get any of those fighters, but those are definitely ones he wants. Hes not talking up a fight against Spence at all.
