Dillian Whyte to announce fight date next week

whyte54By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) says he’ll be returning to the ring soon. He expects to announce his next fight date next week. Whyte, 28, has shoulder surgery following his 7th round knockout loss to Anthony Joshua last December.

Whyte is rehabbing his surgically repaired left shoulder. Whyte wants a rematch against the 27-year-old Joshua because he feels the outcome of their second fight will be different with him uninjured.

Whyte suffered a shoulder injury in the 2nd round of the Joshua fight, and this left him with just one good arm to fight the 6’6” heavily muscular Joshua. Whyte was doing good before the injury.

It’s too ba he was hurt because we might have seen a victory for Whyte. He had Joshua staggering in the 2nd round after hitting him with a sledgehammer left hook to the head. Joshua wanted to trade power shots and he was regretting it until Whyte hurt his shoulder.

“Shoulder treatment,” Whyte posted on Instagram alongside a picture of needles tending to his injury. “It’s almost time to fight again. Fight date coming next week let’s do this. #returnofthebodysnatcher.”

Whyte has currently been out of the ring for four months now. He’ll likely be back in the ring in the summer months against an opponent still to be determined. You can’t expect Whyte to fight anyone good because it’s too soon for him to be fighting a difficult opponent. You don’t want to rush someone that has had the kind of shoulder surgery that Whyte has had.

Hopefully, Whyte will be able to regain his punching power and flexibility in his left shoulder, because it would be a real pity if he couldn’t regain his power in that arm. Most of Whyte’s power comes from his left hand. If you take that away from him, then he becomes an average fighter.

Joshua fought recently and won the IBF heavyweight title with a 2nd round knockout in over Charles Martin this month. Joshua will be fighting on June 25 against Dominic Breazeale at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Whyte is going to need to take his time and make sure he gets fully recovered from his shoulder problem.

If Whyte can put together a series of good wins to show that he’s back, I’m sure he’ll be getting a rematch against Joshua and will have a chance to avenge his loss.

If Whyte looks too good in winning his fights, then I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s avoided by Joshua.
