Jacobs, 28, is coming off of a career best win in stopping former WBO 160lb champion Peter Quillin in the 1st round last December in the “Battle of Brooklyn” at the Barclays Center in New York. Earlier this week, Loeffler negotiated a fight between Golovkin and #3 IBF contender Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs).

The fight will be taking place on April 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Wade is managed by Al Haymon, the same guy that manages Jacobs’ career. Now that Loeffler is familiar with Haymon, it could increase the chances of a fight being setup between Golovkin and Jacobs. It would depend on whether Haymon is willing to let Jacobs take on the very dangerous Golovkin, because it would be a very tough fight for Jacobs.

It’s one thing for him to beat a flawed fighter like Quillin, but it’s a whole different story trying to beat someone as good as Golovkin. Jacobs has the power and the youth to give the 33-year-old Golovkin problems if he lands something big, but the real question is would Haymon let the fight take place. Loeffler wants the fight and would gladly get to work to start negotiating the fight there was mutual interest on the part of Jacobs and Haymon.

“Being able to make this fight with Wade, if (Golovkin is) successful, then certainly a fight with Danny Jacobs, who is clearly at the top also of the middleweight division – he had a very impressive knockout of Peter Quillin,” Loeffler said to RingTV.com. “And Gennady being able to sell out (Madison Square Garden) in his last fight – you can only imagine how big a fight between Gennady and Jacobs would be in New York. That would be a monster fight in the New York area. From our side, there wouldn’t be any obstacles to making that fight.”

There’s a big difference in Haymon letting little known Wade take a fight against Golovkin compared to Haymon letting Jacobs take it. Wade is not a world champion, and he likely never will be. Jacobs is a world champion now after toiling away for eight years as a contender. Haymon is careful about the fights he sets his fighters up with. He does not normally match his fighters up against guys that are clearly better than them. In the case of Wade, Haymon does not have many options for him because pretty going to lose no matter which champion he faces. Wade is coming off of a controversial win over 41-year-old Sam Soliman in his last fight a year ago, and he did not impress. Indeed, Wade was extremely to get the victory at all.

Golovkin has a full plate right now with a scheduled fight against Wade on April 23 and a potential fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez later this year in September. However, the Canelo fight is not guaranteed for Golovkin, so it is possible that he could have an open schedule after the Wade fight. Therefore, it would be perfect or Golovkin to face Quillin if Loeffler cannot negotiate a fight against Canelo.
