Fury: I want Deontay Wilder as soon as possible

1-wilderszpilka (4)By Scott Gilfoid: Despite heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 19 KOs) saying he’s not sure if he’ll continue his boxing career or not for one more fight, he’s saying he wants to face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) in a unification fight as soon as possible.

Obviously, Fury isn’t going to be able to do that if he walks away from the sport. He’s saying a lot of different things though. On Thursday, Fury said he might fight one to three more times, or he may choose not to fight again.

It’s hard to know what Fury will do because he’s not sounding like a stable person with a good foundation underneath him. My guess is Fury is getting cold feet now that he knows that he could lose in his next fight against Wladimr Klitschko. I smell fear from Fury. I think he’s worried and that fear is eating him up inside and causing him to tremble at the thought of being beaten by Wladimir and/or Deontay Wilder.

“I want Wilder as soon as possible,” said Fury to RingTV.com. “I’m not the type of fighter who wants to beat on 25 bums to break someone’s record. I want to fight the best out there. Wilder didn’t look great in his last fight but Szpilka was southpaw, awkward and he still got planted to the canvas.”

Wilder, 6’7”, looked as good as a person can look when fighting a mover in Artur Szpilka last January. It’s not as if Szpilka was standing there and fighting Wilder in a straight up fight. Szpilka was constantly moving his upper body when coming forward, and it was next to impossible for Wilder to line him up for a big right hand. It took Wilder some time before he measured Szpilka and was able time him with a big right hand in the 9th to get a knockout. When Szpilka was on the outside, he was moving constantly and making it all but impossible for Wilder to hit him with jabs and long right hands.

Deontay is a dangerous puncher, who’s still learning because he didn’t have a very long amateur career,” Fury said. “I think he’s getting better all the time and you can’t do more than plant a man to the canvas in the heavyweight division. It doesn’t matter if he’s good, bad or whatever; the crowd wants to see knockouts.”

It’s nice that Fury wants to fight Wilder and all, but I think he should focus more on trying to win his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko instead of flapping his gums about wanting to fight a unification fight against Wilder. Fury can yap all he wants about the Wilder fight, but if he gets the tar knocked out of him by Wladimir, then there’s no point in him talking about fighting Wilder.

It’s not as if Wilder is going to have mercy on Fury by throwing him a bone by giving him a world title shot after he gets knocked out by Wladimir. Believe me, the only person that will be getting a fight against Wilder after he gets done with taking care of business against Alexander Povetkin in April if Wladimir. I hate to say it, but I see Fury getting knocked clean out by Wladimir in their rematch in one of those highlight reel knockouts where Fury is out cold before he even hits the canvas.
