Can Hearn deliver the big fights for Kell Brook?

hearn54By Gav Duthie: Many have criticized Amir Khan for chasing the rainbow by pursuing a super fight against renowned stars such as Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Manny Pacquiao. Khan has stuck to the philosophy of ‘If at first you don’t succeed try, try again.” Eventually this has paid off as he has secured a bout with WBC middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, one of the sports biggest names. He refused to accept that his best option was Kell Brook and although I believe fighting the Mexican is a big mistake you have to give him credit.

I would argue that Brook has done the same with Khan. They have chased and chased but the man from Bolton has got away. For Brook, Amir was a huge money fight and a good opponent to bridge the gap between British supremacy and the American market. The question is where does he go now and its on Eddie Hearn to deliver big fights for his prize asset.

Frustration

I can’t imagine how Kell Brook is feeling about his next opponent, Canadian Kevin Bizier. He has lost two fights too Ionut Dan Ion, all be it by split decision and Brook destroyed Dan with consummate ease. Brook wanted the world and all he is getting is mandatories and British level fights like Frankie Gavin. Kell Brook doesn’t need Eddie Hearn to negotiate mandatories he could do that himself. When Brook came back from his injury he would have been thinking Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather and Khan not Dan, Frankie Gavin and Bizier. Hearn tweeted that Brooks reaction to the Canelo v Khan fight was get me Golovkin. Problem is that is not going to happen. Hearn’s future is dependent on his management of Brook. With Carl Froch retiring, Brook and Anthony Joshua are the top stable men in Hearn’s Matchroom Sport stable. Hearn has delivered good fights but only between British fighters (Froch v George Groves), (Carl Frampton v Scott Quigg), can he get a top American over here though?

Who can he fight and can Hearn deliver?

Even Eddie Hearn must know the next fight for Brook after Bizier needs to be good. Hearn will likely be looking to get fights that will bag the Khan fight further down the line. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to try and get any of Khan’s defeats. Danny Garcia would be difficult as he is now WBC champ, Lamont Peterson is possible if he moves up in weight and even beating Breidis Prescott, despite losing seven times since destroying Khan would make a statement. Thurman a Porter rematch would be great and Eddie Hearn claims he has spoken to Top Rank supremo Bob Arum about facing the winner of Pacquiao v Tim Bradley. Fortunately with the IBF Errol Spence Jnr is likely to be the next mandatory which would be a great fight.

I’m not sure that Hearn can get these fights. Brook will likely need to fight in America. If he can’t get a big fight this year then The Special One will need to look elsewhere for a promoter.
