Mayweather: If I’m so boring, why do everyone want me to stay in the sport

Floyd MayweatherBy Chris Williams: The recently retired Floyd Mayweather Jr. is amused by all the critics that have come out of the woodwork to take shots at him since he retired from the sport. Mayweather feels that the only reason fans take a shot at him is because of the huge impact that he’s had on the sport of boxing.

Mayweather says that a lot of fans want to see him come back and resume his pro career. However, Mayweather says he’s not interested in returning to the ring at this time. He wants to devote his time to helping his fighters in Mayweather Promotions establish their careers so they can find the kind of success that he did as a champion in many weight divisions.

“I don’t have the urge to fight anymore. I haven’t had the urge to fight for a while,” Mayweather said to Fighthype.com. “You know, people are like, ‘Floyd, stay in the sport!’ If I’m so boring, why do everyone want me to stay in the sport. If I’m so boring, why everybody taking shots at me from every different way? But I love it. I like when they take shots at me. I’m no longer competing, but like I said before, I made such an impact in the sports world and the entertainment world that my name will live on forever.”

There is so much jealousy about Mayweather and his incredible career. Many fans only want to see Mayweather come back so that someone can beat him. They want to see Mayweather get taken down a peg, and they’re always looking for some fighter that they feel can do the job against him. The new kid on the block that critics have selected as the guy to beat Mayweather is IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

Mayweather’s critics have had to search so far and wide to find someone that they think can finally beat him that they’ve focused in on a middleweight rather than someone from Mayweather’s own weight class sat 147. The fans had to go two weight divisions up to find someone that they felt had the talent to do the job on him.

The thing is Golovkin came too late, because Mayweather is gone now and he’s not going to comeback just so that fans can see whether Golovkin can do a number on Mayweather. But suffice it to say, Golovkin would come up short too. He’s too slow and flatfooted to ever beat Mayweather, even though he would have such a huge weight advantage over Mayweather. Size doesn’t matter when you’re talking about greatness. Mayweather would nullify Golovkin’s size and power and end up clowning him just like he did the equally big Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in their fight in 2013.

Mayweather doesn’t feel the urge to come back to the sport because he’s already beaten the best in the sport in defeating Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo, and Manny Pacquiao. Coming back so that he could fight Golovkin makes no sense because he’s not the same level as those guys are/were, and it’s just no point for Mayweather to waste his time.
