Hughie Fury’s management looking for a highly ranked opponent for him

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Hennessy Sports, the promoter for unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs), are now looking for a highly ranked contender for the 21-year-old Hughie to fight in February for his next fight. Hughie has knocked out his last two opponents he’s faced, and his trainer Peter Fury believes that he’s ready to step it up a notch by taking on a top 15 contender.

Hughie knocked out 37-year-old Larry Olubamiwo in the 1st round last December. Before that, Hughie stopped Emilio Ezequiel Zarate in the 2nd round. It’s kind of a rare thing to see Hughie knocking guys out, and it’s hard to know if this is because his opponents are so gawd awful or because he’s improved his punching power. Having seen the Zarate fight, Fury didn’t look anymore powerful to me than he usually does.

It’s just that his opponent looked terrible, like someone that had taken up boxing as a hobby and didn’t belong in the ring with young Hughie. As for Hughie’s win over Olubamiwo, we’re talking about a fighter with 17 defeats in his last 18 fights. Olubamiwo was also knocked out in the 1st round by “Big” John McDermott and Jamie Hearn. The fact that Hughie knocked Olubamiwo means little.

“End of Feb, Hughie Fury will be judged. At 21 years, he’s ready for them all,” trainer/father Peter Fury said on his Twitter. “Hennessy Sports will be working for high ranking well named boxers. Any fighter in the world with a top ten ranking for end of Feb no matter who you are. Get in touch with Hennessy Sports; we now looking. We certainly not calling out fighters on here. But the fans will not be disappointed with Hughie Fury opponent selection. That’s a fact!! No tried & failed UK has-beens to con the public. Real fights I need for Hughie, and we will be getting them.”
