Dillian Whyte vs. Dereck Chisora possible for May or June

whyte66By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight world title challenger Dereck Chisora (25-5, 17 KOs) has reportedly accepted an offer from the talented 27-year-old Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) to face him in a domestic dustup that could take place in May or June.

Whyte called Chisora out recently but had doubts whether he would accept the fight. However, Chisora is more than willing to take the fight. Now whether Chisora’s promoters at Sauerland Events will feel the same way as him as another matter.

Chisora is one of the candidates for a fight against British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s next fight on April 9th at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Chisora also has a chance of fighting EBU heavyweight champion Robert Helenius.

With that said, if Chisora doesn’t get the fight against Joshua, then a fight against Whyte would likely bring him a bigger payday if they promote the fight right in the media.

“Mr Dillian Whyte, I’m all here Bro. Whenever you’re ready, you let me know,” Chisora said via skysports.com. “I don’t need to do no trash-talking. I want to fight. You let me know when you’re ready. We do it, anytime.”

This would be an interesting fight between these two guys. Some boxing fans see Whyte as younger, stronger and better version of Chisora. I have to agree with that. The 6’4” Whyte is what the 6’ 1 ½” Chisora could be if he had more punching power and height on his frame. The only thing that Chisora appears to have on Whyte is better stamina. Whyte looked pretty tired in his recent fight against Anthony Joshua last December. Chisora is a little more relaxed in the ring than Whyte, and that obviously helps him with his stamina.

“Don’t worry I be back in the ring mid-May early June let’s do this no trash talk.”

Whyte recently had shoulder surgery on his left shoulder to repair an injury that he had prior to his fight against Joshua. The injury was worsened in the Joshua fight to the point where Whyte was fighting with just his right hand after the 2nd round. Whyte’s shoulder surgery was a success, and he expects to be in full form for his next fight in May or June.

If the Whyte-Chisora fight gets made, it’s going to be really tough on Chisora because Whyte is a MUCH bigger puncher than Tyson Fury, who easily beat Chisora twice. I rate Whyte as a better puncher than Vitali Klitschko. Chisora lost to a one-armed Vitali four years ago in losing a 12 round unanimous decision in 2012. Chisora folded under the power from David Haye in 2012 in losing by a 5th round knockout. Whyte is definitely a bigger puncher than Haye. There’s no question about it.

Hopefully, Chisora’s promoters at Sauerland Events lets him fight Whyte, because it would be a huge fight if this match can get made. For Whyte, it would give him a nice scalp to add to his collection, and he would get a chance to show that he’s not the same fighter that lost to Joshua last December. When healthy at 100 percent, Whyte is pretty much unbeatable. He just needs experience, and he needs to be active.

Chisora defeated Andras Csomor by a 2nd round knockout last Saturday night in Germany. It was Chisora’s fifth straight victory. Unfortunately, it was also his fifth straight fight facing a 2nd tier fodder level opponent. Before Chisora’s recent string of wins over journeyman level opposition, he was stopped in the 10th round by Fury in November 2014. Chisora burned up all 2015 fighting weak opposition, and hopefully he doesn’t burn up 2016 doing the same.
