By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum isn’t the only person connected to Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) who doesn’t see his April 9th fight against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) being the last fight of his career. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach also doesn’t believe that Pacquiao will retire after the Bradley fight on HBO PPV. Roach sees Pacquiao continuing his boxing career even after he’s elected into the senate in the Philippines in May.

“I could see Senator Manny Pacquiao defending his world title,” Roach told FightHub (h/t Rappler). “I don’t think this will be his last fight. I think he will fight in the future because I just don’t feel he’s all done. He’s always telling me before when I’m all done will you tell me.”

The question is will Arum and Roach let Pacquiao retire? I believe they both have a lot of persuasive power over Pacquiao. If Arum and Roach don’t want Pacquiao to retire from the sport, then I would bet that he’ll continue fighting until they give him the green light to step away. Pacquiao looks like he’s got another three good years before he’s done. That would mean that Pacquiao would be retiring when Arum’s around 87-years-old.

Arum wouldn’t need to have to suffer through years of not having a big PPV star if Pacquiao can keep fighting for him for another three years. If Arum is still around by the end of three years, his other potential stars, Terence Crawford and Felix Verdejo, might be ready to step into the void to take the baton from Pacquiao as the next PPV attractions for Top Rank. Right now, neither of them are even remotely ready to fight on PPV in a main event as the A-side.

Arum and Roach will need to sit down and try and talk Pacquiao out of retiring if they want him to stick around for another few years. Pacquiao sounds like he’s made up his mind that he doesn’t want to continue his career beyond the Bradley fight. I think it’s a good time for Pacquiao to retire. If he sticks around and continues his career, he’s going to receive a lot of pressure from boxing fans to fight Arum’s fighter Terence Crawford in order to turn him into a star.

Arum would likely make the Pacquiao vs. Crawford fight in a second. If Pacquiao were to continue to fight for another two to three years, I could see Arum matching Pacquiao against Crawford over and over again in rematch after rematch the same way Arum has matched Pacquiao repeatedly against his other Top Rank fighters Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Roach makes a lot of money per fight as Pacquiao’s trainer. If Pacquiao retires, Roach won’t be getting the big money that he was getting. I am just saying. Roach won’t have the same money coming in with Pacquiao retired unless he can become the trainer for another highly paid PPV star like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. After Pacquiao retires, I think Canelo will be the biggest pay-per-view attraction in the sport. I just don’t see Canelo hiring Roach and paying him the same way Pacquiao was.
