Robert G doubts Arum will let Pacquiao fight Broner

broner5456By Chris Williams: WBA light welterweight champion Adrien Broner told the media last week that he was contacted directly by Manny Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz about him being the next opponent for Pacquiao for April. However, trainer Robert Garcia questions whether Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum would be willing to let Pacquiao fight Broner due to Al Haymon being the adviser for Broner. Garcia thinks that Arum will likely want to put Pacquiao in with his Top Rank fighters instead of letting him fight a non-Top Rank guy like Broner.

“The question is can the fight [Pacquiao-Broner] even happen because of the Al Haymon-Top Rain situation,” Garcia said to esnewsreporting.com. “I think Bob Arum would rather do it with one of his Top Rank fighters, or maybe one of Golden Boy’s fights. If it did happen, I still think Pacquiao would win. Pacquiao is awkward, he’s fast and he’s strong. I think Pacquiao wins,” Garcia said.

It’s too bad but I believe Robert is correct about Arum steering Pacquiao into fighting one of his own fighters Terence Crawford or Tim Bradley. A fight against Broner would likely make Pacquiao more money than if he fought Bradley for a third time or if he fought Crawford, who isn’t well-known with the casual boxing fans of the sport. The money that Pacquiao could make for a fight against Broner would obviously be very good. The problem is it wouldn’t be a fight where all the money is kept inside the Top Rank family in terms of the promotion of the fight. With Pacquiao fighting one of Arum’s Top Rank guys, it would be no sharing of the money with a non-Top Rank company.

Bradley is seen as the guy that will be getting the Pacquiao fight. It’s not an interesting match-up though, because Pacquiao has already fought Bradley twice and gotten the better of him in both fights. Bradley won the first fight in a robbery in 2012, but the fans didn’t respect the decision and still saw Pacquiao winning the fight. Bradley won the fight merely in the record books but not where it really counts with the boxing fans. In the rematch last year, Pacquiao easily beat Bradley by a 12 round decision.

There is zero interest from fans in a third fight between Pacquiao and Bradley. However, that probably won’t stop Arum from making that fight if Pacquiao chooses him. Bradley may or may not be the guy that Arum wants Pacquiao to fight, but at least he’s a Top Rank fighter and not someone promoted by another outside promotional company. A lot of fans think Arum wants/needs Pacquiao to fight Crawford in order to help turn Crawford into a pay-per-view attraction so that he makes money for Top Rank.

The recently beaten Brandon Rios thinks that Pacquiao will beat Bradley without any problems.

“Pacquiao again, I think,” Rios said to esnewsreporting, when asked who would win in a third fight between Pacquiao and Bradley. “I thought Pacquiao beat him [Bradley] the first two times.”
When asked who would win in a fight between Pacquiao and Broner, Rios said “Pacquiao.”
