Floyd Mayweather’s Intentions

Floyd MayweatherBy Ali Lajiq: I am briefly writing in response to a great article written by honorable writer, Allan Fox stating as to why Floyd Mayweather Jr. suggests that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez should duck his WBC mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Mayweather Jr. is an intelligent human being inside the ring and an even smarter one outside. The actual reason as to why he suggests that Canelo should pass some time before taking the “Kazakh Thunder” fight is very obvious if only you throw on your very own pair of Floyd Money Mayweather shoes.

Floyd is a man of pride; LOTS of it in fact. He has previously publicly stated that he himself, believes that the title of “Greatest of All Time” is his. With that regard, Canelo’s lone blemish on paper is from Floyd himself.

That is Floyd’s only concern I believe. Envisioning Canelo turns into the new face of boxing, Floyd wants to remain as the only man to have given him the taste of defeat. If Canelo-GGG is to be made in the near future, I would favor GGG as opposed to the fight materializing years later in which I would give the edge to the younger and stronger Canelo against an aging Golovkin. Anticipating that Canelo will be considered as boxing’s greats, Floyd will be given tremendous help in solidifying his status as the G.O.A.T. from Canelo by simply beating every fighter he faces.

I find it extremely difficult to believe Mayweather’s incentive in stating that he cares about Canelo’s health. Ironically, before his fight with Marcos Maidana, ‘All Access’ displayed segments of footage in which Mayweather hosted a 31-minute sparring session that abided by his ‘Dog House’ rules. “The rules are you fight ’til whoever quits,” Mayweather said in the episode. Later in the episode, a smiling Mayweather added, “Guys fight to the death. It’s not right, but it’s doghouse rules.” So much for his concern for human health.

I am already calling it; Floyd will be all-out supporting Canelo under all circumstances. The rise of Canelo will only give us and next generations better judgement of Floyd’s status as the G.O.A.T. Do not be surprised to hear and see Floyd encouraging Canelo to make “smart choices” as he likes to refer to them.
