Tyson Fury weighs 247, still looks flabby though

fury4533By Scott Gilfoid: I commend Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) burning off a lot of lard during his training camp for his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) on Saturday night. However, I hate to say it but Fury still looks flabby around the midsection despite coming in at 247lbs during his weigh-in today.

Officially, Fury weighed in at 246.4lbs, but you round that off to 247. In looking at that stubborn flab around Fury’s belly area, I have to say he didn’t take off enough lard from during the camp. When you see saddlebags like the ones Fury has around his sides, it tells you that he didn’t work hard enough to take that blubber off.

Just from the naked eye, I’d say Fury is still perhaps another 20 pounds overweight with that useless flab just hanging there off his sides. If you take that fat off, Fury is no more than a 227 pound heavyweight. That’s not enough obviously for a fighter 6’9” like Fury.

He needed to hit the weights to develop some muscles for his upper body because he’s pretty weak looking right now with visible fat around his midsection. When I see lubber like that still hanging off of Fury’s sides after a long training camp, it tells me that he didn’t something right during the camp.

Either Fury came into the came with too much tonnage on his body, or he didn’t work out hard enough. Of course, Fury might have stalled out his own efforts if he cheated during camp by stuffing pastries, candy and pies down his gob. I would hope that Fury would have had the discipline to stay away from those kinds delicacies.

If I was training Fury, I would have had him on triple day workouts, and had him eating only oatmeal, egg whites and salmon during the entire training camp. I’d have had someone staying with him at night and would have made sure that person tailed Fury everywhere he went. I would have made sure that a lock was on the refrigerator to keep Fury from sneaking snacks. As far as aerobic activity goes, I’d have Fury running 10 miles per day. Believe me, that stubborn flab around Fury’s midsection would have melted off by now if I was training him.

Wladimir looked pretty good for an old guy in coming in at 245.8lbs. He didn’t look like a young fighter. He definitely looked like a 40-year-old guy to me. Whether Fury has the youth, fitness, chin, and punching power to take advantage of Wladimir’s advanced age remains to be seen.

All I know is Wladimir does not look young anymore, and that could mean that he’s ripe for the taking if Fury fights at the same level he’s shown in his last two fights against Christian Hammer and Dereck Chisora. If that version of Fury shows up on Saturday, then I can see him gleefully beating Wladimir to a pulp.

There was a long stare down between Wladimir and Fury after the weigh-in. In compared to the previous stare downs between the two fighters, Wladimir seemed to have more confidence. It could be that Wladimir got confidence from his big brother Vitali Klitschko standing not far from him on the stage.

I noticed that Wladimir seems to be a much different fighter when Vitali is hanging around. Of course, having Vitali with him hasn’t kept Wladimir from losing in the past. Vitali was around when Wladimir was knocked out by Ross Puritty, Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster. He wasn’t able to keep Wladimir from getting knocked out in those fights.
