klitschko#1By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) defeated an old and shot looking IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night in a huge upset at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The scores were: 115-112, 115-112, 116-111.

I’m sorry, but I can’t give any credit to Fury for this win because Wladimir looked like he was literally 110 years old tonight. Heck, Wladimir looked like he was out there with a walker trying to fight. Fury looked almost as bad. They both looked like a couple of geriatrics. I hate to say it but if Deontay Wilder was in the ring with them tonight, I think he would have whipped them both at the same time.

Wladimir was talking afterwards about wanting to fight Fury a second time. If Wladimir throws even three punches per round in the rematch, he’ll be 100 percent better than he was tonight. Wladimir fought like he was scared of his own shadow. I’m really, really disappointed in his performance. Words can’t describe How I feel about how awful Wladimir was.

There wasn’t much to separate the two heavyweights in the first six rounds, to be honest. It wasn’t until after the 6th round that Fury was able to separate himself from Wladimir by throwing more shots, even though most of them were missing by a mile. Fury was able to win rounds just based on him being the busier guy, as Wladimir looked like he was afraid to use his right hand because of the potential of being countered. The thing is Wladimir was afraid to use his jab and left hook as well, and that didn’t make sense.

In the rounds, Wladimir looked in shock. He wouldn’t make eye contact with his trainer Johnathon Banks or his older brother Vitali Klitschko, both of which were telling Wladimir that he needed to throw punches. Wladimir just looked shocked and only stared at his cut man as he worked on him or out at a distance with his 1000 yard stare. Wladimir looked totally out of it. It would have been interesting to see if his late great trainer Emanuel Steward would have been able to snap Wladimir out of his trance like state in between rounds in order to impress upon him that he needed to let his hands go.

Fury did very little to get the better of Klitschko in the 2nd half of the fight. He was mostly missing with his shots, and landing an odd jab, left hook or right hand every now and then. The thing is that with Wladimir throwing zero punches, it enabled Fury to win rounds based on him connecting with one or two punches.

I’ve never quite seen a fight like this before where both guys are connecting with zero punches and looking so poor. Usually, it’s one fighter that stinks up the joint rather than both fighters, but tonight it was both guys in Fury and Wladimir equally looking dreadful in the ring. I can only imagine what the American boxing fans were thinking of Wladimir and Fury as they wanted the fight at home on HBO Championship Boxing. It had to be a disappointment for the fans, because many of them pay extra each month in order to watch boxing action. But with fights like the Klitschko vs. Fury fight, I bet the fans are feeling like they didn’t get their money’s worth.
