Joshua expects Wladimir to beat Fury

wladimir4By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten British heavyweight Anthony Joshua sees IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) turning back the threat of Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night. Joshua predicts that Wladimir’s class will be too much for Fury in this fight. However, Joshua still thinks it’ll be a close fight, which runs counter to what a lot of people believe.

“The fight will be action packed right from round one,” Joshua said to skysports.com. “I think Fury will come out with nothing to lose.”

I do agree with Joshua about Fury coming out on fire in the 1st round. If Fury doesn’t come fast, he’s going to get jabbed and pounded to pieces. He kind of has to come out on fire in this fight because he doesn’t have the outside game to be able to fight slowly like he did in his fights against Dereck Chisora. If Fury uses his normal lazy manner of fighting, he’s going to get butchered by Wladimir something quick.

In today’s public workout, we kind of got a glimpse of how Wladimir is going to be fighting Fury on Saturday. Wladimir’s trainer Johnathan Banks moved around the ring, and Wladimir chased him down constantly, nailing his pads with hard jabs, left hooks and right hands. I’ve never seen Wladimir cut off the ring and attack any of his opponents like he was going after Banks today.

The reason for that is because there was always a danger for Wladimir in the past due to his opponents have decent punching power. He couldn’t go after them because of the potential of him getting nailed with a huge shot and knocked cold. But against the slapping Fury, who has absolutely no punching power, Wladimir can afford to go after him and just lay into him with huge power shots until he drops for the 10 count.

“His style is to throw a lot of punches but ultimately I think Klitschko’s class will shine through and he will win,” Joshua said. “The result is difficult to call, both have knock outs on their record and anything can happen in heavyweight boxing.”

It looks like Joshua is trying to be politically correct by not coming out and just saying that Fury will get blasted out in this fight. Joshua is sitting on the fence here. At least he admitted initially that Wladimir will be winning the fight. I just wonder what Joshua really thinks about the fight though. He’s obviously sparred with both fighters before in the past, and he has to have a pretty good idea who will be winning the fight based on those sparring sessions.

Fury’s style of throwing a lot of punches and leaning back to avoid the return fire won’t be effective in this fight, because Wladimir has too much punching power and size. Fury will need to trade shots with Wladimir for him to fight like he normally does, and I don’t think he has the chin to fight in that manner. Wladimir will catch Fury with something big sooner or later and plan him on the canvas for the knockout.
