Hughie Fury: Wladimir is padding his shoes to make himself look taller

hughie45By Scott Gilfoid: Hughie Fury claims that the talented IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) has resorted to stuffing his shoes in order to make himself as tall as the supposedly 6’9” Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs). The two heavyweights stood eye to eye during Friday’s weigh-in during the stare down between them.

There had been rumors floating around forever that Fury wasn’t anywhere close to the 6’9” listing for him, but today was kind of a burst of reality when Fury was no taller than the 6’6” Klitschko. What’s interesting is that the 6’6” Hughie went so far as to say that Wladimir isn’t even as tall as him.

According to Hughie, Wladimir only comes to the middle of his forehead, which would put him around 6’3” at best. Hughie looked wild-eyed while he was talking about Wladimir for some reason. I guess the experience of seeing Wladimir as the same height as Tyson Fury must have been a real shock for Hughie’s system, because he looked like he was going to blow a rod and lose it entirely.

“I guarantee you this is one of Tyson’s easiest fights, mark my words,” Hughie said to IFL TV. “Look, it’s all a mind game with Klitschko. He’s putting stuff in his shoes to make himself look taller. He’s no bigger than right there [the 6’6” Hughie then motions to the middleweight of his own forehead to indicate that Wladimir is no taller than 6’3” or 6’4”]. He’s not as tall as me. It’s all a mind game with him. Tyson is unpredictable and you’re going to see that on Saturday night. It’s not about money with Tyson. It’s all about getting the titles off of him. It’s all about beating Klitschko; a guy that’s been the best for 10 years. Tyson just wants to beat him and prove that he’s the best,” Hughie said.

This is so sad that Hughie is coming up with dream scenarios to try and explain away Wladimir being as tall as Tyson. Did Hughie ever stop to think that Tyson isn’t as tall as many boxing fans think he is? Heck, I been hearing stuff about Tyson not being 6’9″ for ages. I still remember when Tyson Fury fought the 6’6″ Nicolai Firtha four years ago in 2011 and the two fighters looked to be the same height. After that fight, I just forgot all about Fury being 6’9″, and figured that he was somewhere around 6’6″ like Firtha and Klitschko.

I’m sorry, but I can’t buy into this bit of nonsense that poor Hughie is spouting. It just looks he’s invented some crazy theory to try and explain away Tyson not being as tall as some people think he is, and he’s come up with the idea that Wladimir is stuffing his shoes with padding to make himself taller. In other words, Wladimir has turned his shoes into elevator shoes in order to be as tall as Tyson, according to Hughie. I don’t see it that way. When Wladimir and Tyson have stood eye to eye during the other face offs, Wladimir has been pretty much the same size as him there too, as far as I can tell.

It’s not a big deal that Tyson Fury isn’t as tall as some people thought he was. So what if he’s maybe not 6’9”. It’s not as if it was going to make a whole heck of a lot of difference. I mean, Tyson could be 7’0”, and I don’t think it would help him any against Klitschko.

It would just be some statistical thing that he has for when he’s described by boxing fans and sports writers. I suppose it sounds before for Fury to be called the 6’9” Fury rather than the 6’6” Fury.

As for Hughie saying this is going to be Tyson’s easiest fight, I can’t agree with that. If Hughie really has his mind made up about this being an easy fight for Tyson, then I think he’s going to be deeply upset on Saturday night when things don’t work out like he thought they would be. Why doesn’t Hughie have a more realistic viewpoint about Fury’s fight with Klitschko? At least if Hughie said it was going to be a life and death struggle, he could potentially be correct and look like a genius afterwards if the fight turns out to be competitive. Personally, I don’t think it will be competitive. I see Wladimir doing a real number on Fury in schooling him badly before he knocks him out cold by the 4th round. It won’t go long because Fury is so sloppy and his chin is not strong. If a a cruiserweight like Steve Cunningham was able to put Fury on his backside on the canvas then just imagine what Wladimir will do to him.
