DEONTAY WILDER-MEDIA WORKOUT-9831By Scott Gilfoid: Boxing fans could be in for a real treat on January 16th next year between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and #3 WBC Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov. The fight is being negotiated, and it’s quite possible that these two tough warriors could be facing off on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

This is a voluntary title defense that the World Boxing Council has already approved for the talented 6’7” Wilder. He’s already defended his WBC title twice in massacring Eric Molina and Johann Duhaupas.

This is the perfect opponent for Wilder to fight for him to get ready for Alexander Povetkin next year. That’s supposedly someone that can beat Wilder, but I don’t believe that’s going to be the case. Povetkin, 6’2”, was already exposed by Wladimir Klitschko a couple of years. Since then, Povetkin has taken it easy by facing pretty much nothing but weak opposition.

“We would love that fight. It looks like (Glazkov) is one of the opponents they’re looking at,” Glazkov’s manager Egis Klimas said to ESPN.com. “I have nothing writing, no contract yet. So I don’t know if it will happen or not happen. We need to see something in writing, but (Main Events promoter) Kathy (Duva) told me what’s going on and that they are talking. But as far as the fight goes, of course, we would love that fight.”

Wilder, 6’7”, is looking to add another knockout to his growing number of knockouts. The more knockouts wilder scores the more popular he becomes. The fight against Glazkov and Povetkin, both Eastern European fighters, will be getting Wilder ready for his ultimate test against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2016.

That’s if Klitschko wins his fight against Tyson Fury this month in their fight on November 28th. Deontay feels that he’s ready to whip Wladimir right now because he’s improved dramatically since 2012, when he helped Wladimir get ready for his title defense against Mariusz Wach.

Wilder learned enough from that experience to feel very, very confident about his chances of beating him. Wilder also feels the 39-year-old Klitschko has faded to the point where he’s totally beatable now. However, Wilder does think that Wladimir will defeat Fury, because he still sees him having more than enough to beat the 6’9” Fury, who is little more than a slapper than a puncher.

Glazkov can face Wilder or Wladimir. He’s got the options of fighting both. He’s already Wladimir’s IBF mandatory, so he doesn’t need to fight Wilder if he doesn’t want to. However, the fight against Wladimir would mean that he’d have to wait until either late 2016 or until 2017. A fight against Deontay is just right about the corner in just two months.

It’s basically up o Glazkov in deciding which of the two he feels more confident of beating. Personally, I don’t see Glazkov doing well with either of them, but I can definitely understand why he would want to fight Deontay because that fight is right there in just two months.

Glazkov has struggled in fights against Malik Scott and Derric Rossy. He arguably was beaten by both guys. Glazkov did defeat Tomasz Adamek in 2014 in a fight where he looked really good. Glazkov competed in the 2008 Olympics for Ukraine, but unfortunately for him he was eliminated by the huge 6’6” Zhang Zhilei in the super heavyweight division. Glazkov did defeat Roberto Alonso of Cuba and Newfel Ouatah of Algeria.
