Deontay Wilder: I’m definitely going to KO Tyson Fury

wilder444(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) wasn’t that surprised to hear the news that Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) was beaten last Saturday night by Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs).

Deontay says that Wladimir probably wasn’t 100 percent for the fight due to the injuries he’d suffered during training camp for the fight. Wilder also thinks that Wladimir got too accustomed to fighting shorter fighters recently, and it was a problem for him when he had to fight someone as tall Fury. Wilder now says he’s hoping that the Fury can hold onto his titles long enough for him to get a fight with him so that he can whip him to take all of them from him.

Deontay says he’ll definitely be knocking Fury out when they face each other. Wilder isn’t worried about beating Fury, because he knows what he sees in him. The main thing that Wilder is concerned about is whether Fury can hold into his IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight straps long enough for him to relieve him of the heavy burden of possessing them.

“I don’t think he [Wladimir] was 100 percent due to him coming off of injuries,” Wilder said to esnewsreporting. “Wladimir was used to fighting so many short opponents. He was used to them having to work so hard to get to him. Hopefully, he [Fury] holds onto them [his titles] for a long time until I get to him because people were saying Klitschko is the best in the division. He was a true champion. Now that he’s lost, people can’t deny that I am now officially the best heavyweight in the world. All the haters have to acknowledge it. I would most definitely knock Fury out, hands down,” Deontay said.

I think it kind of goes without saying that Wilder is the best heavyweight champion in the division right now. Fury looked dreadful in the Klitschko fight, so you can’t put him in the same league as Deontay. WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev is arguably a step down for Wilder from his win over Bermane Stiverne earlier this year.

I think Stiverne is a better fighter than Chagaev and would KO him if the two of them were to ever fight. Fury just doesn’t have the punching power or the hand speed to handle an encounter with Wilder, and that’s why I see Fury not being in a hurry to get inside the ring with him.

It would be a tremendous shock for Fury to go from facing a guy like Wladimir, who had problems throwing any punches last Saturday, to fighting a punching machine like Wilder. With the one-punch power that Wilder has, I think Fury would be on the canvas face first before long if they were to face each other right now. I don’t think it would matter how much movement Fury used against Wilder, he would get nailed over and over again. That kind of head movement wouldn’t keep Wilder off of him for long. It obviously had Wladimir befuddled, but he’s an old guy at 39, and doesn’t seem able to let his hands go like he used to.

“I’m much faster [than Fury], much stronger, much more athletic, and more mobile and everything you can name,” Wilder said. “I’m 10 times better than him. They know it too. Everything about me is much better than Fury. I’m one of the best in fighting going backwards. So you can’t pressure me. Anybody that tries to pressure me is going to lose. I love southpaws. I can fight on the inside. I’ve got one of the best jabs in the business. I throw more punches than any heavyweight out there. My right hand is a killer. I’m the main in the division. I’m looking forward to getting back into the ring real soon. We’re looking at January 16th. I’m definitely going for all the belts. I’m going to be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world real soon,” Deontay said.

I totally agree with Wilder about all the things he just said in regards to his talent vs. Fury’s. I mean, it’s painfully obvious that Fury is slower, weaker, less mobile and not athletic as Wilder in my view. Those are just basic things that jump out at you when you look at Fury and Wilder fight.

I don’t think that Fury is going to be able to hold onto his titles long enough for Wilder to fight him for them. I do think Wilder and Fury will fight someday, but it’ll be a case where Wilder is defending his WBC title against the challenger Fury rather than the champion Fury. I see Wladimir beating Fury in their rematch, and that’ll wreck any chances for a unification fight between Wilder and Fury. Wilder will then face Wladimir in a huge unification fight in Germany in what I suspect will be Wladimir’s last fight of his career. I think Deontay will KO Wladimir and send him into retirement.
