judah33By Allan Fox: 38-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-9, 29 KOs) will be facing former super featherweight world champion Juan Carlos Salgado (26-5-1, 16 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round fight on November 13th on CBS Sports at the D Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Judah has been out of action since he lost a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to Paulie Malignaggi two years ago in 2013. Judah is seen as a shot fighter in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans.

Judah has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights in defeats to Danny Garcia, Amir Khan and Paulie Malignaggi. The only win that Judah has registered is the last 4 years is a 9th round knockout win over Vernon Paris in 2012. That’s three years ago.

It’s unclear why Judah is coming back after two years out of the ring. Does he need money or does he think he can actually make noise in the 140lb division? With Malignaggi recently getting $500,000 payday against Danny Garcia, perhaps Judah feels he can follow the same model that Malignaggi has going for him with him facing weak opposition. If Malignaggi can get a big payday, then Judah be able too.

This is a fight that he should be able to win, as Salgado is on a 4-fight losing streak.
The 30-year-old Salgado lost his IBF super featherweight title in 2013 in a 4th round knockout loss to Algenis Mendez. Since then, Salgado has lost to Miguel Roman, Takahiro Ao and Jairo Lopez.

At this point, Salgado is starting to look like a shot fighter. In that respect, he’ll be perfect for Judah, who looks to be totally shot as well. It Salgado doesn’t look like he belongs at light welterweight, and he’s going to have problems if he chooses to stay in this weight class.

Lee Selby vs. Fernandon Montiel averaged 428,000 viewers on PBC on ESPN

Last Wednesday’s clash between IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby and Fernando Montiel brought in disappointing ratings for Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN. The fight averaged just 428,000 viewers.

Selby won a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112, 118-110 and 119-109. In the main event, former two division world champion Devon Alexander’s fight against Aron Martinez averaged 512,000 viewers with a peak of 615,000, according to Dan Rafael. Martinez won a 10 round decision over Alexander.
