Should the WBO have let Rigondeaux keep his title?

rigondeaux111`By Gerardo Granados: It has been reported that the WBO has decided to strip off Guillermo Rigondeaux from his super bantamweight belt due inactivity and according to their rules they are entitle to do so because Chacal has been inactive and not defended his WBO or WBA belts since December 31 of 2014. But why has the true super bantamweight Champion of the World been inactive for so long?

Soon the WBA could apply its own rules which are similar among the major boxing organizations and also might strip him off the belt. Does that means that Rigondeaux is no longer the best fighter in his weight division or is it possible to argue that Chacal doesn’t need any belt to prove his worth.

As the reader already knows Floyd Mayweather Jr announced his retirement after his May fight and hasn’t defended his WBA-WBC 154 belts since September 2013. But according to the rules shouldn’t Mayweather Jr have been stripped already or is it that in Floyd´s case he does have the privilege to keep them for as long as he wants.

Such way to allow the rules and regulations to be applied or to make exceptions according to the own organism committee criteria might as well nullify the statutory rules of the organization. In other words we have the rules listed and everybody must obey them but it’s up to me to decide when to make an exception and you can’t complain because the same rules authorize me to do so.

What hurts the most Pro Boxing isn’t competition from the MMA or Muay Thai, hey competition can only help us improve and we should never blame the decadence of Pro Boxing to the increase of fight fans interest in any other contact sport, because we the hard core fight fans and also the boxing purist do know very well that what hurt Pro Boxing the most is the heinous mismatches sold as main events and the pathetic attitude of the boxing Divas.

I confess that I am not a big fan of Guillermo Rigondeaux and that his boxing style isn’t fan friendly but I do acknowledge that Chacal deserves better because he is as talented as Floyd Mayweather Jr. Maybe he could spent more time promoting himself inside and outside the ring, perhaps he should accept to fight for less money in order to stay active and he could even seriously consider to accept the challenge from Vasyl Lomachenko and take the risk to move up to the featherweight division. Because one thing is clear to me and that is that Rigondeaux doesn’t have the privilege to waste more time staying inactive.

If Rigondeaux owned two belts of the super bantamweight division but still wasn’t been able to defend them in a lapse of 10 months, then what will happen to him if he ends up losing both of his titles on the table? Would the new belt holders be interested to fight against him?

It would be great to see the best fight against the best but is Chacal story the unavoidable fate of dangerous boxers who can´t draw big audiences on TV Networks?

What if the WBO had made an exception or if Rigondeaux promoter appeals the decision? I don’t see any difference at the end; but would it have made any difference at all for you?
