Martin Murray gets 4th world title shot against Arthur Abraham

murray53By Scott Gilfoid: Three time world title failure #15 WBO Martin Murray (32-2-1, 15 KOs) will be getting yet another world title shot when he faces WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (32-2-1, 15 KOs) on November 21st at the Tui Arena, in Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany.

I predicted this fight would happen in the past, and as usual I was right. My other prediction is I don’t see it going well for the light hitting 33-year-old Murray. I suspect he’ll take a royal whipping of the first order and be sent on his way to be a 4-time world title loser.

I just don’t get it how Murray keeps getting world title after world shot despite his failures. When you see guys like Murray getting world title fights 24/7 and then talents like Andre Dirrell being virtually ignored, it makes you wonder what’s wrong with boxing. Whatever the case, Murray will be getting a shot at arguably the weakest of the super middleweight champions in 35-year-old Abraham. If Murray can’t win this fight, then I think he’s going to need to come to accept reality that he’s just not good enough to win a world title.

As expected, Murray’s promoter Eddie Hearn is cocky about Murray’s chances of winning. He thinks Abraham’s promoters at Sauerland Events made a mistake of letting Murray get a title shot against Abraham.

“I think it’s a very winnable fight but a tough fight,” Hearn said to skysports.com. “I feel like Abraham and the Sauerlands have made a bit of a mistake. I think they’ve looked at this voluntary defence as a clever piece of match-making and I think it’ll backfire on them, so I’m going to have a lot of fun with Kalle on this one.”

See what I mean about Hearn being cocky. He sounds delusional about this match-up. I don’t understand how Hearn could assume that Murray can beat anyone good because he’s failed every time to try and win a world title in the past.

Murray’s failure against IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last February was especially bad, because instead of trying to win the fight by going after Golovkin, Murray basically ran and held all night long. I mean, really stunk up the joint with that God awful performance. If I ever wanted to write a textbook in how not to win a fight, I would have Murray as an example of how not to do it. That was an awful effort from him.

I think once Murray feels Abraham’s power for the first time on November 21st, he’ll be off to the races and will be running like the wind to keep away from the German fighter. It’ll be all about survival for Murray. Like the Golovkin fight, it’ll be senseless the way that Murray will be fighting. I don’t know what Murray was waiting for in the Golovkin fight.

Murray ran and held all night, and all I could think was he was hoping to tire Golovkin out with his movement so that he could nab him later in the fight. But it was just a useless plan if that was what he was doing. I’m giving Murray the benefit of the doubt that it was actually a plan because it just looked like a fighter in full scale retreat after being routed in the early rounds when he actually tried to exchange with Golovkin.

“I really feel Martin Murray will beat Arthur Abraham,” Hearn said. “I really think Murray is a favorite going in to the fight,” Hearn said.

Oh boy, I think someone needs to wake Hearn up and give him a cup of strong coffee because he’s having delusions of grandeur.

Since being whipped by Golovkin, Murray has beaten the following obscure fighters: Jose Miguel Torres, Mirzet Bajrektarevic and George Beroshvili.
