Is Mayweather afraid of a healthy Pacquiao?

Image: Is Mayweather afraid of a healthy Pacquiao?By Allan Fox: Former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) has made it quite clear in the last two weeks that he wants a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) on April 9th in his last fight so that he can get a chance to clear up his previous loss to Mayweather on May 2nd of this year. But instead of Mayweather agreeing to the fight, he’s continuing to say that he’s retired and won’t be coming back.

This is something that is hard for most boxing fans to understand because Mayweather has a chance of adding another $100 million to his fortune. He’s said to have between $200 and $400 million.

If it’s only $200 million that Mayweather has, then he can greatly increase his fortune if he agrees to take the fight. With the way that Mayweather is spending up his money, he may regret not taking the fight with Paquiao someday.

There are a number of boxing fans who believe that Mayweather is afraid to fight Pacquiao now that he’s 100 percent healthy and no longer dealing with a shoulder problem that plagued him last May in his fight against Mayweather.

Pacquiao had the shoulder injury weeks before he fought Mayweather, and this left him in a position where he was fighting with only a portion of his punching power in his right arm. Some boxing fans think that Mayweather is just plain lazy and that’s why he’s not coming back.

So you have some fans that think Mayweather is afraid of fighting a healthy Pacquiao and others who think that he’s just too lazy to get back inside the ring to start training again. Other fans think that Mayweather is afraid of losing his unbeaten record that he’s carefully guarded all these years.

They think he’s been strategic all along by waiting until Pacquiao was 36-years-old before agreeing to fight him, and fighting limited fighters like Robert Guerrero, Marcos Maidana, Andre Berto and Ricky Hatton.

b>”It’s totally false. I’m not fighting anymore, period,” Mayweather said to Stephen A. Smith of ESPN about a potential rematch with Pacquiao.

It doesn’t make any sense to me that Mayweather isn’t showing any interest in a second fight against Pacquiao, because how do you walk away from that kind of money? We’re talking about Mayweather working hard for three months and then collecting a huge payday against Pacquiao.

Who wouldn’t do that? Of course, if Mayweather is unsure whether he can beat a healthy Pacquiao, then it makes all the sense in the world for him not to want to get inside the ring with the Filipino star. It’s a much different story for Mayweather to be fighting a healthy Pacquiao rather than a fighter at only 60 percent.

It is hard to imagine how a person wouldn’t want to get that kind of money before retiring, especially with what we know of other great fighters in the past throwing their huge fortunes away with foolish spending while trying to hold onto their huge entourages.
