Martin Murray wants Arthur Abraham

Martin Murray wants a big win over Jose Miguel Torres at First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday, live on Sky Sports, to lead to a World title clash with WBO Super Middleweight king Arthur Abraham.

Murray challenges Torres for the WBA Inter-Continental title in his first championship bout since challenging Gennady Golovkin for the Middleweight sensation’s World titles, and the St Helens star is targeting the World rulers at 168lbs – and admits he’d love a showdown with WBO champion ‘King’ Arthur Abraham.

“I really I want the Arthur Abraham fight,” said Murray. “Eddie Hearn was with the Sauerlands last week, so hopefully it gets made. I doubt he would give me a voluntary defence as I’m too dangerous – so I would have to go down the route of becoming mandatory challenger in one of the governing bodies.

“James DeGale has the IBF, I hope George Groves wins the WBC as that’s a fight I believe we can make, Frank Buglioni is fighting Fedor Chudinov for the WBA in a few weeks, so when I win the WBA Inter-Continental that should put me high up the rankings.

“I’m not picky over which of these guys I fight – I want them all. Jose Torres is tough and I’m too experienced to overlook him. I need to go in there and do the business.

“The way I feel in the gym at the minute at the new weight is unbelievable. I’ve had a week off since the beginning of May and the strength conditioning I’ve been doing has been superb.

“I’m with the best promoter in Matchroom and the biggest boxing platform in Sky Sports – big things are on the horizon for me.”

Murray’s clash with Torres is part of a huge night of action in Leeds as Josh Warrington defends his WBC International and Commonwealth Featherweight titles against Joel Brunker.

There’s a pair of English title bouts as Andy Townend defends his Super Featherweight crown against Lee Glover while Isaac Lowe and Jamie Speight contest the vacant Featherweight strap, Tony Bellew continues his march to a Cruiserweight World title fight and unbeaten Birmingham Super Flyweight star Kal Yafai is in action.
