Klitschko: Tyson Fury is insecure and trying to cover it up with nonsense

By Scott Gilfoid: After watching British challenger Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) make a clown of himself at today’s press conference in London, England, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) came away from the experience thinking that the 27-year-old Fury is an insecure person who is trying to cover it up by talking his head off by saying this or that.

Klitschko says he’s going to heal Fury of his mental problems when he gets him inside the ring on October 24th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Wladimir figures that the beating that he dishes out to the 6’9” Fury will ultimately make him a better person and will clear his head up.

I’m not sure if that’s realistic though because I believe that Fury’s mind and personality are both pretty much fixed at this point in his life. In other words, Wladimir’s not going to be able to beat some sense into Fury by giving him the thrashing of his life on October 24th, because I don’t see that as being possible. Fury is what he is. Let’s face it.

Start time: The Klitschko vs. Fury fight will be televised at 7:00 p.m. London time on October 24th.

Where to watch? Klitschko-Fury will be shown on Sky Box Office in the UK, and RTL in Germany.
“It was the most entertaining press conference in my 25 years of being involved in boxing,” Klitschko said via skysports.com. “His [Fury] insecurity inside is covered with all the statements and a lot of nonsense that was said,” Klitschko added.

Wladimir is right. Fury was talking a lot of nonsense today in London. I think he’s trying as hard as he can to throw Klitschko off his game by attempting to scare him. I think Fury’s rationale for acting the way he acted today was to try and scare the wits out of Wladimir.

If he can scare him to the point where he doubts himself, then Fury will have a lot easier time getting the win than if he had a motivated Wladimir who wasn’t in doubt of himself and his abilities.

I think it would work for Fury if he had a resume of impressive wins in the past instead of just the fluff victories over marginal opposition. Fury’s problem is he’s not fought quality opposition during his career.

Fury’s best opponent thus far is Dereck Chisora, who really has never beaten anyone during his own career other than 2nd tier guys. Fury is totally untested, so of course Wladimir has no fear of him. Wladimir sees Fury for what he is, an inexperienced fighter with zero power and a chin problem.

“He’s [Fury] very unpredictable and probably doesn’t know himself what kind of plan – A, B, C or D – he’s going to have,” Wladimir said.

Yes, I totally agree with Wladimir. I don’t think Fury has any kind of plan-B, C, D, E or F. I think he doesn’t have the sense to have a good backup plan if his plan-A fails to work on October 24th. If that plan doesn’t work for Fury, I see him sticking with it in hopes that it may eventually win.

The thing is if Fury sticks with an ineffective plan-A against Wladimir, then he’s probably not going to last very long against Wladimir. Fury will wind up walking into one of Wladimir‘s huge shots. About the only thing I can see Fury doing in this fight is switching stances over and over again from the orthodox to the southpaw stance in hopes that he can throw Wladimir off somehow if he does this enough.

For Fury’s sake, he should forget about all the junk stuff that he’s done in his past fights, and instead focus on staying on the outside and keeping his guard up. Fury can’t move very well, so he won’t be able to rely on using that strategy against Wladimir to stay afloat for long in this fight.

Fury might be able to crowd Wladimir and try and make it an inside fight. Not too many fighters have tried to crowd Wladimir in the past. I just don’t know that Fury would be able to have enough success with this strategy to get the win.

“I can make him a better person; the way of treatment is going to be the fight. It’s already started and it’s going to continue,” Klitschko said. “My therapy has already started. He just was at the doctor’s office and got his first session.”
