Khan: I can definitely beat Pacquiao

khan44By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) says he can definitely whip Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs), which is why he wants to fight the Filipino fighter so badly. Khan says he’s sparred with Pacquiao a ton in the past when the two of them were trained side by side by Freddie Roach, and he feels that he’s got what it takes to hand the 36-year-old Pacquiao another loss on his record.

Khan’s people are trying to set up the fight with Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, and he’s really hoping he can get Pacquiao in the ring in early 2016 so that he can add his name to his resume in the win column.

While Khan may not admit it out in the open, it appears that he’s using Pacquiao as bait to lure Floyd Mayweather Jr., his desired target, out of retirement so that he can try and beat him too.

“We had the same trainer so as a storyline, it will be a great fight. With what I’ve learned in the last few years, I can definitely fight Manny Pacquiao, and beat Manny Pacquiao,” Khan said to the dailymail.co.uk.

Khan sounds so decisive like he absolutely believes he’s got what it takes to batter Pacquiao and give him loss No.7 on his resume. The problem is when you look bad at how god awful Khan looked in squeaking by a 12 round decision win over Chris Algieri last April, your whole image of Khan as a destroyer goes up with a puff of smoke. I mean, it stands to reason that if Khan couldn’t even whip the likes of Algieri, a fighter that Pacquiao absolutely destroyed last November, then it’s not too likely that Khan will be able to do much with Pacquiao.

I’d like to think that Khan will be able to give Pacquiao a good fight and maybe make it interesting for the boxing fans who will be paying their hard earned money to see the fight on pay-per-view, but I just don’t see it happening.

I think Khan is going to get battered and chased all around the ring by Pacquiao all night long, and wind up having to run for his life to save his hide. Instead of Khan taking Pacquiao’s scalp, it will likely be Pacquiao who takes Khan’s pelt and adds it to his collection.

“We’ve done plenty of rounds in the ring together, sparring. No-one’s ever seen the sparring sessions, I haven’t leaked any videos,” Khan said.

I saw some of the sparring video of the Khan-Pacquiao sparring sessions, and Khan was getting nailed with big shots that were snapping his head back. This was with big Mickey Mouse gloves on and head gear. You couldn’t learn anything from the sparring sessions other than Pacquiao was able to land some wicked shots on Khan that would have been lethal if they hadn’t been wearing the big training gloves.

If Khan is going to let Pacquiao hit him that much with his best power shots, then I don’t see their fight lasting very long at all. Khan was getting hit too solidly by Pacquiao for him to last with the light puncher’s gloves on.
