Fury: I think I rattled Klitschko

By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury’s insane antics at today’s press conference in London were designed to try and rattle the 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko enough for Fury to get an edge against him for their fight next month on October 24th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Fury, 27, attempted to intimidate the 6’6” Klitschko today by standing up and acting like he was getting ready to throw down by taking off his jacket. Wladimir looked totally unafraid like he meant business when Fury took off his jacket.

It would have been a big mistake for Fury to have walked up on the stronger and much faster Wladimir. It might have ended badly for Fury with him getting punched out in short order.

“I wanted him [Wladimir] to know what time it is. I ain’t here to play games,” Fury said to skysports.com. “I do think I’ve rattled him – properly. If anything’s going to rattle him that would be it, because that was a hell of a show, I tell you.”

This reminds me of how David Haye was playing his mind tricks on Wladimir in the run up to their fight in 2011. Haye was trying all kinds of things to get Wladimir rattled, and none of it worked enough for him to get the victory. Instead of winning, Haye got thrown around the ring like a rag doll for 12 rounds. Afterwards, Haye blamed his defeat on an injured little toe.

Instead of Fury worrying about whether he got Wladimir sufficiently worried, he needs to do some push-ups or something to help develop his underdeveloped upper body strength. Goodness knows, Fury could certainly use some muscles and punching power. I’m just saying.

Maybe Fury should hang out with Deontay Wilder to try and learn his techniques for having functional muscles. I mean, I wouldn’t want Fury to hang with Anthony Joshua, because he might end up bulking up too much and wind up unable to scratch his own chin.

“I just want to beat the man who’s the ‘the man’ at the moment. Wladimir is ‘the man’ and I’m glad I’ve got my chance. My chance is here now and I’m not going to let it slip – it’s my time to shine,” Fury said.

It’s too bad Fury isn’t fighting Dereck Chisora or Christian Hammer again, because he would have a great chance of winning those fights. All those crazy antics that Fury is doing right now would be in fitting with his place for those fights. But for his fight against Wladimir. Fury is just the token lamb getting ready to be slaughtered by Wladimir. It’s nothing more than that. It’s always weird when an underdog like Fury starts blabbering like they’re the boss and the A-side in the fight rather than the B-side fighter who has virtually no chance of winning aside from maybe getting a lucky knockout.

Fury is going to need to show a good chin in this fight because if he can’t handle Wladimir’s power like I think he won’t, then this fight is going to be over real quick with a sudden boom from one of Wladimir’s left hooks or fight hands. Wladimir has so many ways of hurting Fury.

“It will mean a lot when I’m standing with my hand in the air – there’s no ifs, it will happen,” Fury said. “I’ll be the heavyweight champion of the world – what more can I do? Apart from defend it a load of times.”

I think Fury is having delusions of grandeur in seeing an image or movie in his mind that doesn’t relate to the reality of his bleak situation. Fury is basically going to a real whipping on October 24th, and there’s no amount of dreaming that will take him away from his fate.

Fury is going to get in the ring and likely take a beating before the referee steps in and mercifully calls a halt to the bout. If Fury is lucky, Wladimir will put him out of his misery in the 1st or 2nd round of the fight. That way, Fury won’t need to suffer like he would if the beating was a prolonged and painful one that rearranges the features and changes one’s mind.
