edit8(Photo Credit: Golden Boy Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is expecting an exciting fight between his fighter #2 WBC Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) and #1 WBC Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) this Saturday night in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing.

De La Hoya thinks that the 5’6 ½” Matthysse will really need to force the action against the taller 5’11” Postol in order to make it a war, because he suspects that Postol will be moving all over the ring to avoid Matthysse’s hard power shots.

In the co-feature bout, Humberto Soto (65-8-2, 35 KOs) will be fighting Antonio Orozco (22-0, 15 KOs) in light welterweight action. This fight could well turn out to be more interesting than the Matthysse vs. Postol fight. Soto is a great technician with excellent punching power, and Orozco is a young fighter with superb power and an unbeaten record.

The vacant WBC light welterweight title will be on the line for the Matthysse-Postol fight on Saturday. Matthysse really wants the WBC belt because he came up short in trying to win the title two years ago in losing to

Matthysse vs. Postol will be taking place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

“Viktor Postol is a lanky, tall fighter with some great knock outs under his belt and is being trained by Freddie Roach, which I know will get him in great shape. Matthysse with have his hands full with Postol,” De La Hoya said.

Postol isn’t a big knockout puncher. He’s more of a guy who throws a lot of punches and does a good job of eluding his shorter, stronger foes. Postol will be playing hit and run on Saturday night against Matthysse. He’s not going to stand there and let him get his shots off. Postol will be jabbing, throwing combinations, and getting out of the way of Matthysse’s return fire.

I think we could see Postol use a lot of clinching in this fight. His trainer Freddie Roach will have no doubt studied Matthysse’s loss to Danny Garcia in 2013. Garcia used movement, holding, jabbing and low blows to keep Matthysse under control.

“After the 3rd, 4th round, I can see it being a brawl. I can see Lucas Matthysse having to chase down Postol and do some damage,” De La Hoya said. When have you ever seen a boring Lucas Matthysse fight? It’s going to be a fun, action-packed fight.”

Roach would be crazy not to try and have Postol copy the blueprint that Garcia created in how to beat Matthysse. Postol will jab like crazy against Matthysse, and move his head and upper body to keep him from landing his big power shots. Matthysse doesn’t throw a lot of jabs himself, so you can expect him to be looking to land nothing but power shots in this fight from start to finish.

“My inspiration is to be a world champion, to fight the best fights. That’s inspiration for me,” Matthysse said.

Also on the card will be lightweight Mercito Gesta (28-1-2, 16 KOs) trying to resurrect his career with a fight against unbeaten Nick Arce (4-0, 4 KOs). Gesta is coming off of a 10 round draw against Carlos Molina, a fighter who has suffered losses to Adrien Broner and Amir Khan in the past. Gesta was beaten by former IBF World lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez by a 12 round decision in December 2012.
