Khan lashes out at Mayweather, labels him “childish”

Instead of Khan agreeing with Mayweather and thanking him for his advice, Khan lashed out at him, calling him childish and saying that he won’t go down in history as one of the great fighters. Why is Mayweather childish and not a boxing great? Well, because he told Khan that he still has Danny Garcia problems, and he passed him up for a big money fight on September 12th in favor of WBA interim welterweight champion Andre Berto.

You could understand it from Mayweather’s point of view in selecting Berto over Khan. Berto is better known than Khan is in the United States, given that Berto’s fights have been televised in the U.S. since 2007. Khan’s fights didn’t start getting televised until 2010 in America. Additionally, Berto is also the WBA interim welterweight champion. The last time I checked, Khan is just the WBC Silver 147lb strap holder. I don’t know of too many fans who care a lot about the Silver belts.

“He’s just putting all these obstacles in front of me, because he knows that obviously I’m a big threat to him,” Khan said to skysports.com about Mayweather suggesting that Khan do the right thing and at least try and avenge his loss to Danny Garcia. “Work it out. Look at my last few opponents and he’s fighting Berto…I think he’s just being a little childish and he knows that Amir Khan will give him a tough fight and he’s kind of avoiding it.”

Oh my, I think Khan is about to blow a rod. Someone better pull him over to the side of the road and get him to simmer down. He’s not taking the news from Mayweather too well, is he? Khan just needs to take the pain and not fight it. Mayweather simply doesn’t rate him as worthy of a fight. Berto is the better fight as far as Mayweather is concerned.

I think Mayweather has been perfectly clear why he’s chosen to put Khan on the permanent ‘ignore’ list. I mean, Khan hasn’t lifted a finger to avenge his losses to Garcia, Breidis Prescott or Lamont Peterson. Do you think that Mayweather would avoid fighting someone again if he got whipped like Khan did by those three fighters? Heck no.

Mayweather would reschedule a rematch as soon as possible to try and avenge his loss. He wouldn’t just take off and go in the other direction like Khan did after he got knocked out and/or outpointed by someone. Also, Mayweather wouldn’t justify fighting someone again if that fighter was beaten by someone else.

We saw that with Khan saying he didn’t have to fight Prescott again because he was beaten by Kevin Mitchell. Khan may not have cared about fighting Prescott again to try and avenge his 1st round knockout loss, but obviously a lot of boxing fans cared. Khan might not have cared about trying to avenge his 4th round knockout loss to Danny Garcia, but obviously Mayweather cared.

There’s a lesson there for Khan if he listens to what Mayweather is saying to him. If you lose to someone, it’s imperative that you at least try to undo it by fighting that person again. It’s like if you flunk your driver’s test. You don’t just saw ‘screw it,’ I’m going to drive illegally and never take the test again. No, you got back and retake the test after you’ve practiced and studied to fix what you did wrong the first place. In the case of Khan, he never even tried to fight Prescott, Garcia and Peterson again.

“If he’s not going to man up and fight me, then I’ll have to fight Manny Pacquiao or someone like that. Someone who would fight me,” Khan said.

I wouldn’t assume that Pacquiao is going to fight him I was Khan. I know Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has been talking about wanting to match Pacquiao against Khan in 2016, but I don’t think Arum is serious. I see him just name dropping to keep Pacquiao’s name alive in the minds of boxing fans after his horrible performance against Mayweather last May.

The fighter that I do see Arum matching Pacquiao up against is Terence Crawford, 100%. It’ll be an in house fight for Pacquiao, and after that I can see him fighting Mayweather again. I don’t see Khan fitting into the schedule that Arum has for Pacquiao in 2016.
