By Chris Williams: Boxing fans will get a chance to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. and challenger Andre Berto tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. Berto” Episode 1 on Showtime. The episode will highlight the buildup to their interesting fight on September 12th on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Part of the episode will show Mayweather showing off his versatility in playing Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas in a game of basketball. What was surprising in watching the game was how good Mayweather is. He was competitive with Thomas, and this isn’t even Mayweather’s No.1 sport. Thomas had to bring his A-game for him to beat Mayweather. He wasn’t slacking off at all against him.

The Mayweather-Berto fight is expected to be a great one with nothing but action packed excitement from start to finish. The undercard of the fight is an excellent one with WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack defending against No.1 WBC George Groves, WBO super featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez defending against former WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido, and Ishe Smith battling Vanes Martirosyan. These are three exciting fights, and it should be really interesting watching these bouts.

“All 48 of my fights have been hard. None have been easy,” Mayweather said. “All played a major key. It’s the ‘Mayweather Era.’ I feel that every fighter is an artist and they all take pictures their own way. I’m just one of the very best artists.”

Mayweather has always taken the tough opponents and that includes Berto, who is currently the interim WBA welterweight champion. Mayweather is the WBA Super World welterweight champ at this time, so it makes all the sense in the world for him to be defending his title against Berto.

I know guys like Keith Thurman and Amir Khan feel that they should be getting a fight against Mayweather, but neither of them have beaten any top notch fighters to earn a shot against him. It’s too late now though for them to start fighting the top guys to get a fight against Mayweather.
They’re now being ignored for them failing to put in the required prerequisite courses to get the fight. They took the soft fights so now they’ve been passed over for failing to build up their names sufficiently to get an audience with Mayweather.

“Berto can fight. He’s a two-time champion. He’s hungry. He comes to wage a war. I expect a hell of a fight out of him,” Mayweather said.

You can bet that Berto is a hungry fighter right now. He’s 3-3 in his last six fights just like Khan. Berto needs a big win over Mayweather to get his career back in the fast lane. Berto has the power and the hand speed to get the victory over Mayweather in this fight, but he’s going to need to press the attack at all times. If Berto fights at a slow pace, which he never does, it’s going to allow Mayweather to win an easy 12 round decision. I expect Berto to really bring it on September 12th to try and add Mayweather’s scalp to his resume of big wins.
