Will Froch be remembered for being too big too strong for Golovkin?

froch#5By Gerardo Granados: WBA/IBF Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch W33(24)-L2-D0 announced his retirement today and a friend of mine asked me if he was going to be remembered as one of the greatest British boxers or would he be remembered for have avoided GGG Golovkin. Just a week ago Froch posted on twitter a photo of him saying he was too big too strong for Gennady which lead to an argument with ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael, even today Rafael twitted a farewell retirement to Froch.

It seems like we will never know if The Cobra was really too big too strong for today’s best middleweight GGG Golovkin; but when the champion is challenged then he cannot be asked for any catch weight conditioning the bout. The funny thing is that Froch never moved up to the light heavyweight division to prove his worth but Golovkin detractors want him to move up to prove it.

Notable wins: Jean Pascal former WBC light heavy by UD12 at super middle, Jermain Taylor current IBF and former WBA-WBC-IBF-WBO middleweight by TKO12 when the time was running out and also was behind in the score cards at super middle, Andre Dirrel current IBF super middle by SD12 in a very close fight, Arthur Abraham current WBO super middle and former IBF middle by a clear UD12, beat Glen Johnson former IBF light heavy by MD12, beat Lucien Bute former IBF super middle by TKO5, after losing by UD12 rematches and defeated Mikkel Kessler former WBA-WBC super-middle by UD12.

Lost to Mikkel Kessler by UD12 and to Andre Ward former WBA-WBC super-middle by UD12. Having a total fight record of W12 (5)-L2-D0.

The statistics and records are just that, are cold numbers that cannot reflect how entertaining and exciting this old lion was. It is a shame for us fights fans that are not going to be able to watch him fight against Golovkin, but just as Froch said sometimes things are not that simple.

Now time will tell if Froch will be considered to be one of the best British fighters of all time or if he will get close to the stature of Joe Calzaghe. If by any chance the reader has a beer on his hand I want to make toast to a fine fighter who decided to hang up his gloves today.

And as usual, I want to ask to the reader; do you think Froch will be remembered for being too big too strong for Golovkin?
